God’s Nation

There is only one nation of the face of the earth that is called to be God’s nation, and that is the nation of Israel.  They alone were specifically chosen of God to be His special people, a nation to follow His statutes and to dwell in the land that He gave them to possess.

1 “Now, O Israel, listen to the statutes and the judgments which I teach you to observe, that you may live and go in and possess the land which the Lord God of your fathers is giving you.  2 You shall not add to the word which I command you, nor take from it, that you may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you…7 For what great nation is there that has God so near to it, as the Lord our God is to us, for whatever reason we may call upon Him?  8 And what great nation is there that has such statutes and righteous judgments as are in all this law which I set before you this day?  9 Only take heed to yourself, and diligently keep yourself, lest you forget the things your eyes have seen, and lest they depart from your heart all the days of your life.  And teach them to your children and your grandchildren, …Deuteronomy 4:1-2 & 7-9

20 “O, Lord, there is none like You, nor is there any God besides You, according to all that we have heard with our ears.  21 And who is like Your people Israel, the one nation on the earth whom God went to redeem for Himself as a people—to make for Yourself a name by great and awesome deeds, by driving out nations from before Your people whom You redeemed from Egypt?  22 For You have made Your people Israel Your very own people forever; and You, Lord, have become their God.  1 Chronicles 17:20-22

Israel did not keep God’s judgments, nor worship Him alone, and added to and took away from His Word; and God drove them from the land that He had given to them.  He promised to restore them to the land and He did, not once, but twice.  And so we see the nation of Israel dwelling in the land that God gave to them in national unrepentant unbelief.  This also is God’s plan, because He has sent a Savior, His Son Jesus Christ the Messiah to save for Himself a people from among the Gentiles to be His very own.  My brethren, this is the time of the Gentiles in God’s economy, until their number is fulfilled and then God promises to save His people, the nation of Israel.

25 For I do not desire, brethren, that you should be ignorant of this mystery, lest you should be wise in your own opinion, that blindness in part has happened to Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in.  26 And so all Israel will be saved, as it is written:  “The Deliverer will come out of Zion, And He will turn away ungodliness from Jacob; 27 For this is My covenant with them, When I take away their sins.”  28 Concerning the gospel they are enemies for your sake, but concerning the election they are beloved for the sake of the fathers.  29 For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.  30 For you were once disobedient to God, yet have now obtained mercy through their disobedience, 31 even so these also have now been disobedient, that through the mercy shown you they also may obtain mercy.  Romans 11:25-31

God’s plan for all peoples is they repent and put their faith in His Son Jesus Christ for the remission of sins and reconciliation to God.

21 For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might be the righteousness of God in Him.  1 We then, as workers together with Him also plead with you not to receive the grace of God in vain.  2 For He says: “In an acceptable time I have heard you, And in the day of salvation I have helped you.”  Behold, now is the accepted time; behold now is the day of salvation.  2 Corinthians 5:21-6:2

If the peoples of any nation will repent of their sin and put their faith in Jesus Christ the Redeemer, then that nation will be blessed by God even though they are not His called out nation.  God’s people are only those who have believed the gospel and put their faith in the Savior Jesus Christ.  They have believed that God the Father sent Jesus Christ His Son to be Savior of the World that whosoever should believe in Him should not perish but have eternal life, because they believe that Jesus Christ died upon the cross for their sins, was buried and then rose again from the dead the third day, ascended into heaven sitting at the right hand of God on high, whose return for His church is imminent, and will come back to judge this world in righteousness as clearly taught throughout the Old and New Testaments.

If individuals of any nation collectively repent of their sin and believe in Jesus Christ they will be saved, and God will pour out His blessings upon that nation.  On the other hand, if the people of any land collectively reject Jesus Christ through worshipping a false Christ, rejecting His Holy Word the Bible and believe they can sin with impunity then God will withdraw His hand of blessing and allow calamity throughout that land.  America is experiencing calamity because the church has preached a corrupted gospel and rejected the Word of God, the Holy Bible as true.  If we want to see our nation turned around, then the church must repent and turn back to God.  May God pour out His Holy Spirit upon this nation and graciously grant us repentance to turn from our evil ways and be reconciled to God through His Son Jesus Christ.  We are witnesses to the destruction that is occurring within the nations that mock God and His Son Jesus Christ.  Do we think we are stronger than God?  We must repent!  The fruit of our lives will bear witness to His work of repentant faith within our hearts, that we are His saved children bound for heaven, saved from the terrors of hell which we deserve because of our sinful works, and delivered from the calamities reserved for the peoples of nations who reject the truth.

11 For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, 12 teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, 13 looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, 14 who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works.  15 Speak these things, exhort, and rebuke with all authority.  Let no one despise you.  1 Remind them to be subject to rulers and authorities, to obey, to be ready for every good work, 2 to speak evil of no one, to be peaceable, gentle, showing all humility to all men.  3 For we ourselves were also once foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving various lusts and pleasure, living in malice and envy, hateful and hating one another.  4 But when the kindness and the love of God our Savior toward man appeared, 5 not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit, 6 whom He poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior, 7 having been justified by His grace we should become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.  Titus 2:11-3:2

Lord Jesus Christ may we always remember that You are the only One Who can change the human heart and create a saved child of God bound for heaven living a life to please You.  May You bring many to repentant faith in You.  Amen!
