Divided Word

Recently I had a truly sad encounter with another blogger who is being deceived by the enemy of her soul and most likely some sort of illness.  The sorrowful result is that she is very confused and is mishandling the Word of truth.  She is not rightly dividing the Word of God.  Based upon a certain text of the Scripture, she is convinced that many are not saved.  Here is the passage that the enemy is unfortunately using against her soul.

And He said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.  (16)  He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.  (17)  And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; (18) They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.  (19)  So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, He was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God.  (20)  And they went forth, and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.  Mark 16:15-20

My dear sister has contended that she is demonized and since no one has been able to cast out her demons they are not saved.  She has also stated that anyone who has considered her a believer proves they are lost because the Holy Spirit did not give to them the discernment to know that she is lost, which is what she believes.  Sadly, she is being deceived by the enemy and is unwilling to rightly divide the Word of truth to deliver her from this terrible deceit.  It is through comparing Scripture with Scripture that we can discern that what she believes does not come from the Savior of our souls.

To bring proper perspective in our study we have to realize that God’s Word encompasses all of the Scriptures.  We can compare the recorded Word of Jesus Christ with His Word revealed through the apostle Paul.  We have to remember that all of Scripture comes from God and has been written and preserved for His purposes which includes correction and reproof of His children.

16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.  2 Timothy 3:16-17

11 But I make known to you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached by me is not according to man.  12 For I neither received it from man, nor was I taught it, but it came through revelation of Jesus Christ.  Galatians 1:11-12

15 and consider that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation—as also our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given to him, has written to you, 16 as also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to understand, which untaught and unstable people twist to their own destruction, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures.  2 Peter 3:15-16

The Holy Spirit has revealed to us through the apostle Paul that there are many gifts that accompany our salvation, and they are different from each other.  We cannot expect everyone to have the same exact God given gifts for He distributes His gifts according to His will as revealed in the following Scriptures.

For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.  (4)  For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same office: (5) So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another.  (6)  Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith; (7) Or ministry, let us wait on our ministering: or he that teacheth, on teaching; (8) Or he that exhorteth, on exhortation: he that giveth, let him do it with simplicity; he that ruleth, with diligence; he that showeth mercy, with cheerfulness.  Romans 12:3-8

Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.  (5)  And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord.  (6)  And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all.  (7)  But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.  (8)  For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; (9) To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; (10) To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: (11) But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as He will. 1 Corinthians 12:4-11

As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.  (11)  If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. 1 Peter 4:10-11

So these passages speak to the truth that Jesus Christ gifts us as He sees fit for the benefit of His children who are members of His body.  We all have Holy Spirit gifts for God’s glory and the edification of our brothers and sisters.  Not everyone will be able to speak with tongues, to prophesy, to heal the sick, to cast out demons.  Some have gifts that are not spectacular but are gifts of the Holy Spirit nonetheless, gifts such as giving, ministering, mercy, discerning and knowledge.  These gifts all come from the Holy Spirit who is given to us through faith in Jesus Christ.  These believers may not be able to cast out demons, but they can serve God in the manner in which they have been equipped for His glory and the blessing of others.  One other thing to keep in mind is that casting out demons is not an indication of salvation.

Not everyone that saith unto Me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of My Father which is in heaven.  (22)  Many will say to Me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Thy name? and in Thy name have cast out devils? and in Thy name done many wonderful works?  (23)  And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from Me, ye that work iniquity. Matthew 7:21-23

God has given to use the seal of the work of salvation in the soul of the believer and it really has nothing to do with spiritual gifts.  Receiving the Word of truth is the sine qua non of salvation.

For our gospel came not unto you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Ghost, and in much assurance; as ye know what manner of men we were among you for your sake.  (6)  And ye became followers of us, and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction, with joy of the Holy Ghost: 1Thessalonians 1:5-6

For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe.  1 Thessalonians 2:13

Finally, the apostle Paul, who was gifted by God with apostolic gifts received Demas as a believer until he proved otherwise.  We can see the same sort of occurrence with Simon the magician who was accepted as a believer until his behavior proved otherwise.

There salute thee Epaphras, my fellow prisoner in Christ Jesus; (24) Marcus, Aristarchus, Demas, Lucas, my fellow laborers.  Philemon 1:23-24

Luke, the beloved physician, and Demas, greet you. Colossians 4:14

For Demas hath forsaken me, having loved this present world, and is departed unto Thessalonica; Crescens to Galatia, Titus unto Dalmatia.  2 Tmothy 4:10

Then Simon himself believed also: and when he was baptized, he continued with Philip, and wondered, beholding the miracles and signs which were done.  (14)  Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John: (15)  Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost:  (16)  (For as yet He was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.)  (17)  Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost.  (18)  And when Simon saw that through laying on of the apostles’ hands the Holy Ghost was given, he offered them money, (19) Saying, Give me also this power, that on whomsoever I lay hands, he may receive the Holy Ghost.  (20)  But Peter said unto him, Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money.  (21)  Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter: for thy heart is not right in the sight of God.  (22)  Repent therefore of this thy wickedness, and pray God, if perhaps the thought of thine heart may be forgiven thee.  (23)  For I perceive that thou art in the gall of bitterness, and in the bond of iniquity.  (24)  Then answered Simon, and said, Pray ye to the Lord for me, that none of these things which ye have spoken come upon me.  Acts 8:13-24

We take professions of faith at their face value until it is proven otherwise.  I can’t bring myself to cast anathema at my friend, but I can say that she is grievously deceived and does desperately need the deliverance of the Lord.  May He act speedily for her benefit and His glory.  Please pray with me for her deliverance and restoration to our great God and Savior Jesus Christ.  Amen!

7 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God.  1 John 4:7

Lord Jesus Christ please do a mighty work in this woman’s heart for her blessing and Your glory.  Thank You that You have given to us Your Word and Your Spirit that we may rightly divide the Word of truth and so avoid the deceit of the enemy.  May Your great name be forever praised.  Amen!
