Pray: Part Two

In the Holy Scriptures, the Bible, God commands us to pray without ceasing.  Our prayers mustn’t be rambling free-form self-expressions, but rather focused requests uttered in the Spirit of God that line up with the will of God.  He tells us what we should pray for in His Holy Word.  In addition to praying for one another, beloved brethren, He also commands us to pray for the salvation of sinners.

Pray without ceasing.  1Thessalonians 5:17

Then saith He unto His disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the laborers are few;  (38)  Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that He will send forth laborers into His harvest. Matthew 9:37-38

Therefore said He unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the laborers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that He would send forth laborers into His harvest. Luke 10:2

Jesus Christ did not come into this world to make our way prosperous and our lives lovely, but He came into this world to save sinners.  That was and is His purpose, to save sinners.  Praise His Holy name.  We must partner with our Lord for the salvation of sinners, and one way He has given us to do this is to pray for Him to send His laborers into the world’s fields to save the lost.  We can also ask Him for the opportunity to share the gospel with others.  What a blessing that has been in my own life when He has heard and answered that prayer.  Jesus Christ is truly the Lord of the harvest and He wants sinners transformed into saints through faith in Him and belief in His gospel of salvation, that He died upon the cross so our sins can be forgiven, and we can be justified with God and He rose again from the dead, being God the Son of God,  to give to us eternal life saving us from eternal damnation in hell.

Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of Him that sent Me, and to finish His work.  (35)  Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.  (36)  And he that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal: that both he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together.  (37)  And herein is that saying true, One soweth, and another reapeth.  (38)  I sent you to reap that whereon ye bestowed no labor: other men labored, and ye are entered into their labors.  (39)  And many of the Samaritans of that city believed on Him for the saying of the woman, which testified, He told me all that ever I did.  (40)  So when the Samaritans were come unto Him, they besought Him that He would tarry with them: and He abode there two days.  (41)  And many more believed because of His own word;  (42)  And said unto the woman, Now we believe, not because of thy saying: for we have heard Him ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Savior of the world.  John 4:34-42

We need to beseech our Lord of the harvest to send out workers into His harvest whose hearts are steadfast upon Him, and who will share the truth of the Word of God so that sinners will know that Jesus Christ is the Savior of the world.  We need to pray for honest laborers in God’s field that they would be bold with the boldness that God gives, and that He would make it clear how He wants them to share the gospel so the lost will come to salvation, believing in Jesus Christ and following Him as their Lord and Savior.  This is the very request that the greatest missionary who ever lived, Paul the beloved apostle, requested from his beloved brethren.

And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel, (20) For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.  Ephesians 6:19-20

As believers in Jesus Christ we have much that we can pray about, and one of the most important requests that we can send continually up to Heaven’s Throne Room is the request for faithful men to preach the gospel as they are equipped by the Holy Spirit with His Holy Boldness and the truth of the Word of God so that it can do its effective work in those who receive it, producing faith in Jesus Christ and eternal salvation for those who believe.

Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving;  (3)  Withal praying also for us, that God would open unto us a door of utterance, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in bonds:  (4)  That I may make it manifest, as I ought to speak.  Colossians 4:2-4

Lord Jesus unite our hearts with Your heart so we long with You for the salvation of sinners.  May our hearts desire Your glory to be manifest throughout the earth as the gospel is preached to believing ears prepared by You so that the harvest may be brought in, for Your good pleasure and name’s sake, and the eternal joy and salvation of repentant sinners who have faith in You.  Amen!

Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, and Timotheus our brother,  (2)  To the saints and faithful brethren in Christ which are at Colosse: Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.  (3)  We give thanks to God and the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying always for you,  (4)  Since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus, and of the love which ye have to all the saints,  (5)  For the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, whereof ye heard before in the word of the truth of the gospel;  (6)  Which is come unto you, as it is in all the world; and bringeth forth fruit, as it doth also in you, since the day ye heard of it, and knew the grace of God in truth:  (7)  As ye also learned of Epaphras our dear fellow servant, who is for you a faithful minister of Christ;  (8)  Who also declared unto us your love in the Spirit.  Colossians 1:1-8
