Christ our Savior

Christ the Messiah, the Son of God, is the Savior of the world.  He alone was sent by God to die on the cross for our sins so we can be forgiven and justified in God’s sight.  In order for us to realize the salvific work of Christ the Messiah on our behalf we have to believe in Him, Who He truly is.  There is only one way to do that, and that is to believe in the testimony about Jesus recorded for us by the Holy Spirit in the Bible, the preserved, inspired, infallible, inerrant Word of God.  We must be careful, because, as Jesus said, many false Christs have gone out into the world to deceive, if possible even the elect.  So it is wise for us to compare popular “Christian” doctrines and beliefs about the Christ, with the testimony of Scripture about Jesus, Who only is the Christ, the Savior of the world.

And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.  (5)  For many shall come in My name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many… For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.  (25)  Behold, I have told you before. Matthew 24:4-5 & Matthew 24:24-25

Recorded for us, by God’s love and grace, in the Holy Bible is the testimony of those who believed that Jesus is the Christ.  We can see the testimony of faith given by these believers, they believed that Jesus is the Christ the Savior of the world.

When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of Man am?  (14)  And they said, Some say that Thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets.  (15)  He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?  (16)  And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.  (17)  And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but My Father which is in heaven.  Matthew 16:13-17

Here we see Jesus asking His disciples Whom they confessed Him to be.  Peter confessed that Jesus is the Christ the Son of the Living God.  This is in contrast to the general belief of those who were not blessed with this divine revelation.  These others confessed Him to be someone else, but not the Christ the Son of the Living God.  And so we have the same situation today, most will confess Jesus to be other than Who He is and not the Christ, the Son of the Living God, the Savior of the world.  Some believe He is insufficient to save, many believe He saves everyone regardless of their beliefs or lifestyles, others believe He came merely to bless us with our hearts desires, all of these plaster over the biblical testimony of Jesus as the Christ with man-made doctrines designed to deceive and lead astray.  They have not received the God given testimony found only in the Scriptures because their hearts and minds have not been blessed by God the Holy Spirit to believe His testimony that Jesus is the Christ.

From that time many of His disciples went back, and walked no more with Him.  (67)  Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will ye also go away?  (68)  Then Simon Peter answered Him, Lord, to whom shall we go? Thou hast the words of eternal life.  (69)  And we believe and are sure that Thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God.  John 6:66-69

Jesus taught difficult sayings to those who followed Him , and they turned away from Him.  Many, today, will not trust and believe what Jesus has declared for us in His Holy Word the Bible, and so they posit a false Christ who says those things that agree with their beliefs.  They don’t want to agree with God in His Word about sin and the command to repent of sin.  They don’t believe that God sent His Son Jesus Christ to die upon the cross so their sins can be forgiven, they can be justified before God, be given new life, eternal life, and have an eternal home in glory with God the Father and Jesus Christ His Son.  In contrast those who confess Jesus to be the Christ the Son of the Living God, will believe and obey everything that He has declared in His Holy Word the Bible.  Sinners saved by grace and converted to be saints of God know that God’s Word the Bible gives us the testimony of Jesus as the Christ and so is the Word of eternal life.

Then said Martha unto Jesus, Lord, if Thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.  (22)  But I know, that even now, whatsoever Thou wilt ask of God, God will give it Thee.  (23)  Jesus saith unto her, Thy brother shall rise again.  (24)  Martha saith unto Him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day.  (25)  Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in Me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:  (26)  And whosoever liveth and believeth in Me shall never die. Believest thou this?  (27)  She saith unto Him, Yea, Lord: I believe that thou art the Christ, the Son of God, which should come into the world. John 11:21-27

Martha, despite her sorrow over the death of her brother gave confession that Jesus is the Christ the Son of God promised to come into the world.  Jesus is the long awaited Messiah.  Jesus Christ has given the promise of eternal life to all who believe in Him, confess Him to be the Christ, the Son of God.  He then backed up this declaration by raising up Lazarus, Martha’s dead brother, to life again.  God’s children know that Jesus gives them eternal life and they shall never perish.  They have come to Jesus empty handed with bare faith and belief that He is the Christ, the Son of God and are assured that they have eternal life.  This is in contrast to many who believe their works or religious rites save them.  Only through faith in Jesus Christ and belief in the gospel do we have the sure hope of eternal life, that our sins are forgiven, we are reconciled to God the Father and are saved from His just wrath poured out upon sinners for eternity in hell.  Only believing in the biblical Jesus as God’s Christ, and trusting His finished work upon the cross can we be assured of eternal life.  God has declared and preserved His Word in the Holy Bible so that we might know Jesus as the Christ, our Lord and Savior, and so have eternal life.

And Thomas answered and said unto Him, My Lord and My God.  (29)  Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen Me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.  (30)  And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book:  (31)  But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through His name.  John 20:28-31

The testimony in the Scriptures about Jesus is so we will believe that He is the Christ the Son of God, and that believing we will have life through His name.  We can’t physically see Jesus like Thomas, and confess that He is our Lord and God, but we can trust the revelation of Jesus Christ that God has left for us in His Word and so know that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God, and so have life in His name.  This testimony is believed by all whom God has blessed through His Holy Spirit to turn from their sin and receive the truth about Jesus in the Bible the He is the Christ, our Savior, the Son of the Living God, our God and our Lord.

In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him.  (10)  Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us, and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.  (11)  Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.  (12)  No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and His love is perfected in us.  (13)  Hereby know we that we dwell in Him, and He in us, because He hath given us of His Spirit.  (14)  And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Savior of the world.  (15)  Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God.  1 John 4:9-15

Thank you Heavenly Father for giving us Your Son that we can be forgiven of our sins and have eternal life, as we repent of our sin and put our faith in Jesus that He is the Christ Who gave Himself for our sins to cleanse us from all unrighteousness and make us holy in Your sight.  Thank You for Your faithful and true witness in Your Holy Word the Bible that gives testimony that Jesus is the Christ the Savior of the world.  May many read, believe and so have eternal life.  Amen!
