What should our attitude be about the evil that rules over this fallen world? How must we prosecute our daily lives in the light of the wickedness that destroys lives, leads the multitudes astray, corrupts nations, and challenges the truth. We are given the answer in God’s Word in His message to the Galatian churches, given to Paul for the exhortation of His beloved saints.
Paul, an apostle, (not of men, neither by man, but by Jesus Christ, and God the Father, who raised Him from the dead;) (2) And all the brethren which are with me, unto the churches of Galatia: (3) Grace be to you and peace from God the Father, and from our Lord Jesus Christ, (4) Who gave Himself for our sins, that He might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father: (5) To whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen. Galatians 1:1-5
God’s will is to deliver sinners from this present evil world and give them grace and peace through our Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ came to this earth specifically to give Himself for our sins, so that we can be forgiven by God and reconciled to Him, to become His beloved children rather than objects of wrath. No matter the evil that abounds throughout this fallen world, God’s will still is to reconcile sinners to Himself through the preaching of the gospel of Jesus Christ, that Jesus died upon the cross for our sins, and rose from the dead for our justification that we should have eternal life. This is God’s call to all sinners, repent of your sins and believe the gospel. Put your faith in Jesus Christ for reconciliation to Holy God or face God’s judgment at the second coming of Christ.
The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. 2 Peter 3:9
For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior; (4) Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. (5) For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; (6) Who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time. 1 Timothy 2:3-6
And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men everywhere to repent: (31) Because He hath appointed a day, in the which He will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom He hath ordained; whereof He hath given assurance unto all men, in that He hath raised Him from the dead. Acts 17:30-31
Jesus Christ chose Paul to be the apostle to the Gentiles. Jesus sent Paul to bring sinners to repentance through the preaching of the gospel and the call to repent and believe in what he was preaching. Paul didn’t even receive the gospel he preached from the other apostles or their writings, but Jesus Christ specifically gave him the gospel to preach to Gentile sinners. Through repentant belief in the gospel and faith in Jesus Christ we are delivered from the evil of this present world, and the wrath that God has promised to pour out upon it at the second coming of Jesus Christ.
At midday, O king, I saw in the way a light from heaven, above the brightness of the sun, shining round about me and them which journeyed with me. (14) And when we were all fallen to the earth, I heard a voice speaking unto me, and saying in the Hebrew tongue, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou Me? it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks. (15) And I said, Who art Thou, Lord? And He said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest. (16) But rise, and stand upon thy feet: for I have appeared unto thee for this purpose, to make thee a minister and a witness both of these things which thou hast seen, and of those things in the which I will appear unto thee; (17) Delivering thee from the people, and from the Gentiles, unto whom now I send thee, (18) To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in Me. (19) Whereupon, O king Agrippa, I was not disobedient unto the heavenly vision: (20) But shewed first unto them of Damascus, and at Jerusalem, and throughout all the coasts of Judaea, and then to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, and do works meet for repentance. Acts 26:13-20
But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man. (12) For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ. Galatians 1:11-12
The all-powerful means that God has provided for deliverance from this evil world system is always the same, repent and believe the gospel. Repent and follow Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ and His wonderful mercy and grace given to us through trust in Him and His work done on the cross for us delivers us from this extant wickedness. This offer is for all sinners. All are called to repent, to turn from sin, and believe the gospel of Jesus Christ.
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (10) If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us. My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the Righteous: (2) And He is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world. 1 John 1:9-2
9 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, 10 nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God. 1 Corinthians 6:9-11
The murder that is raging across the world through the terrorism of radical fundamental Islamists, is an attack against all sinners, and yet the call of God is still the same, repent and believe the gospel. As sinners who have been redeemed through the blood of the Lamb so that we are the saints of God we must never rejoice over the decimation of wicked workers through experts in evil. We must pray for God’s mercy and judgment to stop these sinners, the Islamists, through the proclamation of the gospel and through the wise exercise of forceful means deployed to stop their assault upon all of mankind. The gospel is the power of God to change hearts, and through the faithful proclamation of the truth of the Word of God, sinners can be reconciled to God and delivered from this evil world system.
For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same: (4) For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil. Romans 13:3-4
For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. (17) For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith. Romans 1:16-17
Heavenly Father, may we be faithful to always share the gospel of our glorious Lord Jesus Christ with those whom You bring to us. Thank You that You have given us all that we need to share Your love with others through the wonder of Your glorious Word which is Your faithful record of Who Christ is and what He has done, and the power of Your Holy Spirit Who indwells each and every one of us, Your redeemed children. We love You and know that we can trust You always, even in these evil days. Thank You for Your grace and peace given us through Jesus Christ our glorious Lord and Savior. Amen!
