Divine Authority

There is only one source of divine authority extant throughout this world, and that is the inspired, infallible, inerrant, preserved Word of God.  Only God’s Word proclaims with His authority, “thus saith the Lord” and holds us all accountable, sinner and saint alike, to this divine authority.  The Bible alone is truth and declares to us our standing before Holy God and gives to us the only way to be reconciled to Him.  Today, God’s Holy Word, the Bible, is under attack from pulpit to pen, where there are many who consider it to be no more than a book containing propositional truths, or the beliefs of Jesus and His apostles, rather than God’s Word that must be heard and obeyed by all peoples at all times.  This is a radical statement of faith, especially in this time of relativistic ecumenicalism that rages throughout the visible church.  It is the faith of Jesus and His apostles.  Saving faith necessarily requires humble submission and belief that Jesus Christ is God the Son of God, the Savior of the world, the One Who rules overall, and that He has given us His divine, supremely authoritative Word, the Bible, which is only revealed by the Holy Spirit to those who are called His own through repentant faith in Jesus Christ and belief in His gospel.  Anybody who presumes to declare through writing or speaking anything that is said to have the same authority as God’s Word, without explicit reliance upon the Bible, is a liar and deceiver.  We are commanded by God through the Bible to turn away from these wicked workers.  Belief in, reliance upon, and obedience to the Bible is proof that the person speaking and serving is indeed a saint of Holy God, it is good fruit from a good tree.  Despising God’s Word, the Bible, whether overtly or covertly, is bad fruit from a bad tree, a tree destined for the fire.

Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: (14) Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.  (15)  Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.  (16)  Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?  (17)  Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.  (18)  A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.  (19)  Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.  (20)  Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.  (21)  Not every one that saith unto Me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of My Father which is in heaven.  (22)  Many will say to Me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Thy name? and in Thy name have cast out devils? and in Thy name done many wonderful works?  (23)  And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from Me, ye that work iniquity.  (24)  Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of Mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:  (25)  And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.  (26)  And every one that heareth these sayings of Mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:  (27)  And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.  (28)  And it came to pass, when Jesus had ended these sayings, the people were astonished at His doctrine: (29)  For He taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.  Matthew 7:13-29

Given the history of the assault upon the Word of God, and ultimately, God the Word, throughout the visible church since its inception, it is mandatory that we as believers always question whatever we are taught by that holy, supreme, standard, God’s Word the Bible.  We are warned by Jesus Christ to be on the alert for deceivers, and we are exhorted by His apostles to turn away from anyone who does not bring to us sound doctrine from the pure Word of God.  It is an affront to our Holy God to be willing to listen to false teachers because we are redeemed.  No, my brothers and sisters, being redeemed means that we turn away from all false teaching and hold fast to God’s Word.  It is sinful to read for edification Jesus Calling, The Shack, The Message perversion of the Bible; any and all writings that promote sinful fallen doctrine.  It is sinful, dear brethren, to listen to men and women who are demonstrably false teachers, who exchange the truth of God’s Word for the lie, who operate by the devil rather than the Holy Spirit.  We must hold fast the faithful doctrine which has been delivered to us by God our Father through His chosen vessels, and we must turn away from all error.  Our faith and our rewards are dependent upon holding fast to God’s standard and rejecting all who do not measure up to this infallible standard.  Of course, that demands that we spend time in God’s Word, know it, and allow the Holy Spirit to minister it to our hearts.

And Jesus answering them began to say, Take heed lest any man deceive you: (6) For many shall come in My name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. Mark 13:5-6

Salute one another with a holy kiss. The churches of Christ salute you.  (17)  Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them.  (18)  For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple.  (19)  For your obedience is come abroad unto all men. I am glad therefore on your behalf: but yet I would have you wise unto that which is good, and simple concerning evil.  (20)  And the God of peace shall bruise Satan under your feet shortly. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.  Romans 16:16-20

If any man teaches otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness; (4) He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strife of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings, (5) Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself.  1Timothy 6:3-5

Beloved brethren we must come out from among those who are false and must also examine ourselves to make sure that our calling and election is sure.  If the Evangelical men and women we are following allow false teaching and false teachers into their scope of influence then we must turn away from them.  If the visible church winks at sinful false doctrine what does that say about its love for the Lord Jesus Christ?  If we go along with the visible church, what does that say about our love for the Lord Jesus Christ?  My dear brothers and sisters, no one is above scrutiny, not even our own hearts.  May we with trembling hearts hold fast the profession of our faith, turn away from all error and those propagating it, and believe God’s Holy Word, the Bible to be that true, holy doctrine of faith and practice.

Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?  (15)  And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel?  (16)  And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.  (17)  Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, (18)  And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.  2 Corinthians 6:14-18

Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates? 2 Corinthians 13:5

And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;  (6)  And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;  (7)  And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.  (8)  For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.  (9)  But he that lacks these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.  (10)  Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:  (11)  For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  2 Peter 1:5-11

Dear Heavenly Father, may we be true to You.  You alone deserve our allegiance, for You have saved us through Your Son Jesus Christ.  May we encourage and exhort one another to be faithful and true to You.  Thank you Jesus Christ for Your salvation given to us through repentant faith in You and Your death upon the cross for our sins and resurrection from the dead for our victory over sin, death and the devil.  We love You and long to always exalt You through obedient faith mediated by the Holy Spirit Who indwells us, faith fixed fast upon Your Holy Word, the inspired, infallible, inerrant preserved Bible.  Amen!

The One True Word of God is the rock upon which the waves of human and worldly doctrine are dashed to pieces. It will be preached throughout the world but unfortunately, most of the world will not heed it. Thanks for stopping by hisnamebpraised and liking the post. May you continue to be as all who come to this insightful site be truly blessed. In His Name. Doug
