Tribulation: Part 1

My beloved brothers and sisters, this is the first in a series about the tribulation as I have promised to write.  My focus will be on the book of Revelation, which to many is an enigma.  However, I believe that we can understand this apocalyptic book because of the promises that God has given to us in the book of Revelation in the opening verses.

The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto Him, to shew unto His servants things which must shortly come to pass; and He sent and signified it by His angel unto His servant John:  (2)  Who bare record of the word of God, and of the testimony of Jesus Christ, and of all things that he saw.  (3)  Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand.  Revelation 1:1-3

Everything written within Revelation was given to Jesus Christ by God the Father for His servants.  This Word of God was transmitted through the Apostle John who saw these events and who bore witness to this Word that gives testimony of Jesus Christ.  All who read or listen to this book and keep the things that are written in it, in other words understand and believe, are blessed by God.  So according to this passage we can understand what God has given to us in the book of Revelation.  It is based upon this truth that these posts about tribulation will be written.

Unimaginable devastation upon the world and persecution of God’s church will be the hallmark of the tribulation period.  God in His great mercy and grace wants His children to be well prepared for the upheaval that will characterize earth before Christ returns.  God’s great grace given to His children because of His love mandates giving this revelation of His coming judgment upon the world through the unveiling of the Antichrist and the subsequent outpouring of His wrath upon the evil kingdom of that wicked beast.  The revelation of these events given to John will take place in God’s timing before Jesus returns, and so it is blessed for us to know this prophecy of the end times given to us in the book of Revelation.

Jesus Christ is the focus of this book, both the salvation that He has given to His beloved children and His return to this world in victory and just judgment.  He is the focus of all of Scripture; our glorious Lord and Savior ruling in our mercifully redeemed hearts.

John to the seven churches which are in Asia: Grace be unto you, and peace, from Him which is, and which was, and which is to come; and from the seven Spirits which are before His throne; (5) And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto Him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in His own blood, (6) And hath made us kings and priests unto God and His Father; to Him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.  (7)  Behold, He cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see Him, and they also which pierced Him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of Him. Even so, Amen.  (8)  I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.  Revelation 1:4-8

And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not: I am thy fellow servant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.  Rev 19:10

Throughout the book of Revelation, Jesus Christ is gloriously revealed to us through this prophetic declaration of His glory.  The first chapter opens with Jesus Christ revealed to our beloved brother John as he suffered persecution for his faith in Jesus Christ and his testimony to the Word of God.  Jesus Christ commanded John to give this revelation of Himself to the churches for their edification, exhortation and reproof, therefore, this revelation is for all of His children.

I John, who also am your brother, and companion in tribulation, and in the kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, was in the isle that is called Patmos, for the Word of God, and for the testimony of Jesus Christ.  (10)  I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s day, and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet,  (11)  Saying, I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last: and, What thou seest, write in a book, and send it unto the seven churches which are in Asia; unto Ephesus, and unto Smyrna, and unto Pergamos, and unto Thyatira, and unto Sardis, and unto Philadelphia, and unto Laodicea.  (12)  And I turned to see the voice that spake with me. And being turned, I saw seven golden candlesticks;  (13)  And in the midst of the seven candlesticks One like unto the Son of Man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the chest with a golden girdle.  (14)  His head and His hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and His eyes were as a flame of fire;  (15)  And His feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and His voice as the sound of many waters.  (16)  And He had in His right hand seven stars: and out of His mouth went a sharp two-edged sword: and His countenance was as the sun shineth in his strength.  (17)  And when I saw Him, I fell at His feet as dead. And He laid His right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last:  (18)  I am He that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.  (19)  Write the things which thou hast seen, and the things which are, and the things which shall be hereafter;  (20)  The mystery of the seven stars which thou sawest in My right hand, and the seven golden candlesticks. The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches: and the seven candlesticks which thou sawest are the seven churches.  Revelation 1:9-20

Beloved brethren, we must remember that the glory and wonder of the book of Revelation is Jesus Christ revealed to us in majesty as Almighty God.  John fell at the feet of Jesus Christ as a dead man because of the terror and brilliance of His great radiance.  He is Almighty God worthy of all worship, adoration, praise and humble obedience.  May we all fall at the feet of Jesus Christ as we glory in His revelation of Himself as our great God and Savior, our soon returning and reigning King.  Amen!

But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.  (12)  Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.  (13)  I give thee charge in the sight of God, who quickeneth all things, and before Christ Jesus, who before Pontius Pilate witnessed a good confession;  (14)  That thou keep this commandment without spot, unrebukeable, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ:  (15)  Which in His times He shall shew, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords;  (16)  Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honor and power everlasting. Amen.  1 Timothy 6:11-16

Lord Jesus Christ may we, Your humble servants give You the glory and honor that is rightfully Yours through obedient faith because You are God and You have purchased us for Yourself through Your blood shed on our behalf.  We worship, praise and glory in Your name.  Amen
