God’s Praises: Part One

God is worthy of praise because of who He is.  He is the creator and sustainer of the universe.  He is the Savior of mankind.  God daily pours out upon all of His creation His abundant love, mercy and grace.   In keeping with the benefits that come to us through our God enumerated with words starting with the letters p, r, let us praise Him for these many blessings and look to the Scriptures for His praise.  Let’s start with the first blessing that comes from God and work our way towards the end.  The first blessing I enumerated that starts with the letters p, r, is God’s Prophet.

God’s Prophet:  Jesus Christ is that Prophet whom God promised to send who has provided for us forgiveness for our sins.  The Scriptures shout with praise to Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior!

4 All this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet saying:  5 “Tell the daughter of Zion ‘Behold, your King is coming to you, Lowly, and sitting on a donkey, A colt, the foal of a donkey.’”  6 So the disciples went and did as Jesus commanded them.  7 They brought the donkey and the colt, laid their clothes on them, and set Him on them.  8 And a very great multitude spread their clothes on the road; others cut down branches from the trees and spread them on the road.  9 Then the multitudes who went before and those who followed cried out, saying:  “Hosanna to the Son of David!  Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!’ Hosanna in the highest!”  10 And when He had come into Jerusalem, all the city was moved, saying, “Who is this?”  11 So the multitudes said, “This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth of Galilee.”  12 Then Jesus went into the temple of God and drove out all those who bought and sold in the temple, and overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who sold doves.  13 And He said to them, “It is written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer,’ but you have made it a ‘den of thieves.’”  14 Then the blind and the lame came to Him the temple, and He healed them.  15 But when the chief priests and scribes saw the wonderful things that He did, and the children crying out in the temple and saying, “Hosanna to the Son of David!”  they were indignant 16 and said to Him, “Do you hear what these are saying?”  And Jesus said to them, “Yes.  Have you never read, ‘Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants You have perfected praise’?”  Matthew 21:4-16

9 “Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion!  Shout, O daughter of Jerusalem!  Behold, your King is coming to you; He is just and having salvation, Lowly and riding on a donkey, A colt, the foal of a donkey.  Zechariah 9:9

25 Save now, I pray, O Lord; O Lord, I pray, send now prosperity.  26 Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!  We have blessed you from the house of the Lord.  27 God is the Lord, and He has given us light; Bind the sacrifice with cords to the horns of the altar.  28 You are my God, and I will praise You; You are my God, I will exalt You.  29 Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good!  For His mercy endures forever.  Psalm 118:25-29

8 “Now therefore, thus shall you say to My servant David, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts:  “I took you from the sheepfold, from following the sheep, to be ruler over My people, over Israel.  9 And I have been with you wherever you have gone, and have cut off all your enemies from before you, and have made you a great name, like the name of the great men who are on the earth.  10 Moreover I will appoint a place for My people Israel, and will plant them, that they may dwell in a place of their own and move no more; nor shall the sons of wickedness oppress them anymore, as previously, 11 since the time that I commanded judges to be over My people Israel, and have caused you to rest from all your enemies.  Also the Lord tells you that He will make you a house.  12 When your days are fulfilled and you rest with your fathers, I will set up your seed after you, who will come from your body, and I will establish his kingdom.  13 He shall build a house for My name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever.  14 I will be his Father, and he shall be My son.  If he commits iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men and with the blows of the sons of men.  15 But My mercy shall not depart from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I removed from before you.  16 And your house and your kingdom shall be established forever before you.  Your throne shall be established forever.”’”  17 According to all these words and according to all this vision, so Nathan spoke to David.  2 Samuel 7:8-17

The worship and praise given to Jesus Christ on that day that He entered Jerusalem all centered upon the prophecies concerning Him as the Savior and Redeemer of Israel.  Yes, the Prophet promised by God, Jesus Christ the Savior of the world, was and is praised for His saving work done for the Father on the behalf of mankind.  All who repent of their sin and put their faith in Him are assured that He is indeed, the Prophet God promised to send and they listen to Him by His Spirit and through His Word the Bible, for He is our blessed Savior and Lord!  Amen!

14 Then those men, when they had seen the sign that Jesus did, said, “This is truly the Prophet who is to come into the world.”  John 6:14

11 Then I looked, and I heard the voice of many angels around the throne, the living creatures, and the elders; and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands, 12 saying with a loud voice:  “Worthy is the Lamb who was slain To receive power and riches and wisdom, And strength and honor and glory and blessing!”  13 And every creature which is in heaven and on the earth and under the earth and such as are in the sea and all that are in them, I heard saying:  “Blessing and honor and glory and power Be to Him who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb, forever and ever!”  14 Then the four living creatures said, “Amen!”  And the twenty-four elders fell down and worshiped Him who lives forever and ever.  Revelation 5:11-14

Lord Jesus Christ You are worthy of all honor and glory for You are the Savior of the world, and all who believe in You are saved for eternity and have the privilege of worshiping you for eternity.  May our lives give You the praise that is due Your name until we are in heaven with You.  Amen!
