Throughout this epistle from Paul to his beloved Ephesian believers, he instructs and exhorts these dear children of God on the doctrines and behaviors that are intimately bound up in the true knowledge of God through faith in His glorious Son Jesus Christ and trust in Christ’s perfect salvation. These are the doctrines and the behaviors that belong solely to the body of Christ, His children called out from the death and destruction of this fallen world system ruled over by Satan, into the kingdom of God’s dear Son Jesus Christ, the kingdom of light, truth and righteousness.
In the previous post we studied the verses in which God, through His beloved apostle Paul, gave the distinctions between those with a said faith and the Holy Father’s saints who are faithful to Him through repentant belief in Jesus Christ our wonderful Lord and Savior. In this next passage from Ephesians chapter five the Lord God Almighty declares to us, His children, the manner in which we must deal with these sinners who make a pretense of belief, but are actually tares sown by the devil.
11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them. 12 For it is shameful even to speak of those things which are done by them in secret. 13 But all things that are exposed are made manifest by the light, for whatever makes manifest is light. 14 Therefore He says: “Awake, you who sleep, Arise from the dead, And Christ will give you light.” 15 See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, 16 redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Ephesians 5:11-16
Here it is clear that we must expose these evildoers not only to retard the progression of the deception in their own hearts and sown amidst the minds of others, but also for the God given opportunity that they should repent and turn from this evil way, this broad way that leads to destruction, and turn to the way of truth and life, the narrow way of repentant faith in Jesus Christ. Brothers and sisters the opportunities abound for us to speak out in warning against the corruption and apostasy within the visible church. I was sharing with my husband tonight some more of the misdeeds of the SBC leadership and his response was that it hurt him. That should be the response of each and every one of us because what they are doing is bringing shame to the name of our glorious Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We should be outraged because beloved sisters and brothers are being cynically used to progress this spread of decay and death. We should be moved by our great God’s compassion and love to minister the truth to these gross offenders so that perhaps they might be brought to repentance and faith in Jesus Christ by the mercy of God. We should be humbled in our daily lives so that we pray, beseeching God to turn this Titanic around before it shipwrecks upon the glistening ice of apostasy taking all on board down to a damnable death.
There are those who do an excellent job of exposing the unfruitful works of darkness so that we can warn those around us of the deadly consequences of continuing in unrepentant heresy. I am including links to articles at the bottom of this post that will give more in-depth information about the perfidy of Ronnie Floyd and other leaders within the SBC. It boggles my mind that any beloved saint of Christ could in anyway countenance continuing in this apostate organization, no matter the nature of the local leadership. The fact they are affiliated with such a vile group of God-haters proves they are without discernment and inured to the injury done to the body of Christ by these wicked workers. Shame on them! May we instead separate from these apostates and rather expose the wicked works and exhort with the truth of the Bible for the furtherance of the gospel and for the rescue of those who have wandered from the truth.
17 Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is. 18 And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit, 19 speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord, 20 giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, 21 submitting to one another in the fear of God. Ephesians 5:17-21
Our calling as believers in Christ is to mutual loving edification that is wrought in our hearts by the Holy Spirit of God as we hold fast to the truth of the Holy Bible. All that we say and do must be motivated by love to our Father and love for one another. This love for Jesus and one another should overflow into melodious, ministering music founded upon the truth of the Scriptures spread abroad and retained within our hearts for mutual edification and glorification of our Savior. This love is the antidote to the destruction the enemy desires to wreck upon us. Remember the words of Jesus our Lord:
11 “Then many false prophets will rise up and deceive many. 12 And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold. 13 But he who endures to the end shall be saved. 14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all nations, and then the end will come.” Matthew 24:11-14
So my beloved brethren, let us understand this will of the Lord, let us not become discouraged, turning to alcohol or other distractions to lessen the pain, but may we with hearts full of thankful faith and rejoicing assurance rely upon the Holy Spirit and minister His grace to one another thanking God for His great grace given to us in the name of Jesus Christ our Savior and may we humbly submit to the truth of God’s Word ministered to one another in mutual love and fear of God. May we walk in humble obedience to our God and Savior Jesus Christ following the example that He has laid out for us in the Scriptures admonishing, correcting and exhorting from the Bible, the Word of God. Amen!
29 Jesus answered and said to them, “You are mistaken, not knowing the Scriptures nor the power of God. 30 For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels of God in heaven. 31 But concerning the resurrection of the dead, have you not read what was spoken to you by God, saying, 32 ‘I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living.” 33 And when the multitudes heard this, they were astonished at His teaching. Matthew 22:29-33
Lord Jesus Christ, there has always been those who have gone astray from Your ways, but today it seems that the majority are headed that way. May they be astonished as Your children speak the truth of the Scriptures to them, exposing their error and correcting them with Your truth. As we do Your work may You bless our efforts for Your kingdom in a mighty way. Amen!
