When a sinner repents of his sin and places his faith in the crucified, risen, coming again Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, he is born again into the kingdom of God and becomes a precious child of the Lord God Almighty. This precious saint is promised by his loving Heavenly Father that He will always be with the blood bought child of God. Jesus Christ made this promise that God would be at home in the believer, the ones who believe and trust in God’s Holy Word.
23 Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him. 24 He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine but the Father’s who sent Me. 25 These things I have spoken to you while being present with you. 26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you. 27 Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” John 14:23-27
God’s children who have been supernaturally born again by God’s sovereign will through faith in His glorious Son have the gift of love for the Word of God. They hold fast to the truth and God’s Spirit teaches His Word to them. They despise the words of fallen man and will not countenance the mingling of the treasure of the Word of God with the dross of sinful men. Jesus Christ leads them to have the same love and respect for the Holy Scriptures as He does, and they have hearts filled with the holy desire to obey God’s Holy Word.
7 “If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. 8 By this My Father is glorified that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples. 9 As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in My love. 10 If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love. 11 These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full. 12 This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. 13 Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends. 14 You are My friends if you do whatever I command you. John 15:7-14
God’s children who have received Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, abide in Him by keeping and obeying His commandments. By abiding in Christ we are able to bear fruit for God’s glory joyfully and sacrificially loving God and loving one another. There will be opposition from false brethren who profess to love Christ and His Word but have no outward manifestation of this love. When they are confronted with the truth they will choose the lie and then make godless excuses for doing the same. They will despise God’s redeemed children who are walking in truth and love.
17 “These things I command you, that you love one another. 18 If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you. 19 If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. 20 Remember the word that I said to you, ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you. If they kept My word, they will keep yours also. 21 But all these things they will do to you for My name’s sake, because they do not know Him who sent Me. John 15:17-21
Redeemed through repentant faith in Jesus Christ, believing He died on the cross for our sins, and rose again from the dead for our victory, we hold fast to the Word of life, not trusting in the word of unredeemed man dead in his trespasses and sins. Therefore, they hate us. They secretly despise Jesus; like Judas, they betray the Son of Man with a kiss. We can expect to be excluded from the assembly of the unredeemed because we hold fast to the Word of God, and serve Jesus Christ rather than man’s worthless directives and aspirations. Even though we will suffer persecution, we can be sure that God our Father is with us through our trials of maltreatment.
5 Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” 6 So we may boldly say: “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?” Hebrews 13:5-6
The promise of God the Father to be with His dear child is a very, very precious promise to the redeemed saint. Notice that God is with His dearly beloved child in all circumstances, whether the saint is experiencing deprivation or persecution, he trusts knowing that His heavenly Father is with him and for him. He also knows through the revealed Word of God, that Jesus Christ is at the right hand of God interceding for His beloved children and that God’s supreme love, demonstrated through His Son Jesus Christ being delivered for all the elect of God the Father, will never be removed or diminished no matter the circumstances.
30 Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified. 31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things? 33 Who shall bring a charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies. 34 Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us. 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 36 As it is written: “For Your sake we are killed all day long; We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.” 37 Yet in all things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. 38 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, 39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:30-39
So my beloved brethren, let us hold forth the Word of Life since we have been redeemed by the precious blood of God’s Holy Lamb, our Great God and Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. Since we have the witness of the Spirit that we are His children, let us boldly share our faith for the salvation of sinners and the spread of God’s majestic name. Let us rely on God’s good Word and the work of the Holy Spirit to tell others of this Good News. Let us not fear any one, for God is with us and will never leave us nor forsake us. Praise His Holy name. Amen!
14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are the sons of God. 15 For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.” 16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, 17 and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together. 18 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. Romans 8:14-18
Lord Jesus Christ, as Your precious children, may we joyfully share in the suffering of the gospel as we tell Your story of redemption to the lost and stand up for the truth with the deceived. May You be glorified in all that we say and do. Amen!
