God’s Prophet

My beloved brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus our glorious Lord and Savior, in these days of rampant deception we must guard our hearts and minds against the wiles of the enemy who seeks to deceive us not only by appearing as an angel of light but also through sending forth his ministers who appear to be ministers of righteousness.  These wicked workers will always present the world’s ways as legitimate avenues for knowing and pleasing our God.  They will attempt to turn our hearts away from the only source of God given revelatory truth which is the Holy Scriptures, the Bible, and turn our hearts to the devious demonic devices of fallen man masquerading as theology, exposition, prophesy, and personal revelation.  Throughout the ages there has always been the threat of missing God’s way by embracing man’s way.  So God has always warned His beloved children of these dangers while giving them His all-powerful sovereign solution.

9 “When you come into the land which the Lord your God is giving you, you shall not learn to follow the abominations of those nations.  10 There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, or one who practices witchcraft, or a soothsayer, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer, 11 or one who conjures spells, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead.  12 For all who do these things are an abomination to the Lord, and because of these abominations the Lord your God drives them out from before you.  13 You shall be blameless before the Lord your God.  14 For these nations which you will dispossess listened to soothsayers and diviners; but as for you the Lord your God has not appointed such for you.  15 The Lord your God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from your midst, from your brethren, Him you shall hear, 16 according to all you desired of the Lord your God in Horeb in the day of the assembly, saying, ‘Let me not hear again the voice of the Lord my God, nor let me see this great fire anymore, lest I die.’  17 And the Lord said to me:  ‘What they have spoken is good.  18 I will raise up for them a Prophet like you from among their brethren, and will put My words in His mouth, and He shall speak to them all that I command Him.  19 And it shall be that whoever will not hear My words, which He speaks in My name, I will require it of him.  20 But the prophet who presumes to speak a word in My name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or who speaks in the name of other gods, that prophet shall die.’  21 And if you say in your heart, ‘How shall we know the word which the Lord has not spoken?’—22 when a prophet speaks in the name of the Lord, if the thing does not happen or come to pass, that is the thing which the Lord has not spoken; the prophet has spoken it presumptuously; you shall not be afraid of him.”  Deuteronomy 18:9-22

Jesus Christ is that Prophet about Whom God the Lord spoke to Moses and the children of Israel.  This can be verified by Christ’s lineage and by the testimony the Jesus Christ gave concerning the truth that He spoke.  Here are passages from the New Testament that prove Jesus Christ is that Prophet.

1 The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham:  2 Abraham begot Isaac; and Isaac begot Jacob; and Jacob begot Judah and his brethren;  3 And Judah begot Perez and Zareh by Tamar; and Perez begot Hezron; and Hezron begot Ram;  4 And Ram begot Amminadab; and Amminadab begot Nahshon; and Nahshon begot Salmon; 5 And Salmon begot Boaz of Rahab; and Boaz begot Obed of Ruth; and Obed begot Jesse; 6 And Jesse begot David the king; and David the king begot Solomon of her that had been the wife of Uriah; 7 And Solomon begot Rehoboam; and Rehoboam begot Abijah; and Abijah begot Asa; 8 And Asa begot Jehoshaphat; and Jehoshaphat begot Joram; and Joram begot Uzziah; 9 And Uzziah begot Jotham; and Jotham begot Ahaz; and Ahaz begot Hezekiah; 10 And Hezekiah begot Manasseh; and Manasseh begot Amon; and Amon begot Josiah; 11 And Josiah begot Jechoniah and his brethren, about the time they were carried away to Babylon: 12 And after they were brought to Babylon, Jechoniah begot Shealtiel; and Shealtiel begot Zerubbabel; 13 And Zerubbabel begot Abiud; and Abiud begot Eliakim; and Eliakim begot Azor;  14 And Azor begot Zadok; and Zadok begot Achim; and Achim begot Eliud;15  And Eliud begot Eleazar; and Eleazar begot Matthan; and Matthan begot Jacob;  16 And Jacob begot Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ.  Matthew 1:1-16

15 And the Jews marveled, saying, “How does this Man know letters, having never studied?”  16 Jesus answered them and said, “My doctrine is not Mine, but His who sent Me.  17 If anyone wills to do His will he shall know concerning the doctrine, whether it is from God or whether I speak on My own authority.  18 He who speaks from himself seeks his own glory; but He who seeks the glory of the One who sent Him is true, and no unrighteousness is in Him.”  John 7:15-18

43 “Why do you not understand My speech?  Because you are not able to listen to My word.  44 You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do.  He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him.  When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it.  45 But because I tell the truth, you do not believe Me.  46 Which of you convicts Me of sin?  And if I tell the truth, why do you not believe Me?  47 He who is of God hears God’s words; therefore you do not hear, because you are not of God.”  John 8:45-47

44 Then Jesus cried out and said, “He who believe in Me, believes not in Me but in Him who sent Me.  45 And he who sees Me sees Him who sent Me.  46 “I have come as a light into the world, that whoever believes in Me should not abide in darkness.  47 And if anyone hears My words and does not believe, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world but to save the world.  48 He who rejects Me, and does not receive My words, has that which judges him—the word that I have spoken will judge him in the last day.  49 For I have not spoken on My own authority; but the Father who sent Me gave Me a command, what I should say and what I should speak.  50 And I know that His command is everlasting life.  Therefore, whatever I speak, just as the Father told Me, so I speak.”  John 12:44-50

22 Judas (not Iscariot) said to Him, “Lord, how is it that You will manifest Yourself to us, and not to the world?”  23 Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.  24 He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine but the Father’s who sent Me.  John 14:22-24

5 “And now, O Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was.  6 I have manifested Your name to the men whom You have given Me out of the world.  They were Yours, You gave them to Me, and they have kept Your word.  7 Now they have known that all things which You have given Me are from You.  8 For I have given to them the words which You have given Me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came forth from You; and they have believed that You sent Me.  9 I pray for them.  I do not pray for the world but for those whom You have given Me, for they are Yours.  John 17:5-9

14 “I have given them Your word; and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.  15 I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from the evil one.  16 They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.  17 Sanctify them by Your truth, Your word is truth.  18 As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world.  19 And for their sakes I sanctify Myself, that they also may be sanctified by the truth.  20 I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; 21 that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me.  John 17:14-21

The genealogy from Matthew the first chapter proves that Christ was descended from people of Israel, as promised by God the Father.  Jesus Christ bore witness to being sent by the Father through His works and through His word.  The very words that He spoke were given to Him by the Father.  This was fulfillment of the prophesy given to Moses by God the Father about that Prophet the Father promised to send for His people.  God’s people were to listen to Him instead of the false prophesy and demonic utterances of the world around them.  Jesus Christ proved He is the Prophet by fulfilling this prophesy.

As we examine what Jesus Christ said in answer to the religious rulers’ objections against His person, words and works, we can see that Jesus segregates between the saved and the lost, the kingdom of God and the kingdom of the world.  Those who are of the world, belonging to Satan, do not receive Christ’s words or the words that He gave to His prophets and apostles after Him.  The people of God through repentant faith in Jesus Christ receive and believe His Word; all of it!  They, and only they, are one with the Father and the Son through believing what the Holy Bible teaches about the Messiah, Jesus Christ the Lord and Savior of all those who believe in Him.

Beloved, we must stay in God’s Word, the Bible.  We must not stray from His Holy Word into the polluted word of fallen man that has its origins in the lies of the devil.  Those who write from any other source about Jesus Christ, Who He is and what He has done for us, are showing they do not belong to Him.  They cannot hear nor understand His Word because their hearts are full of the lies of the devil.

And so dear brethren, we must come to the sad and terrifying conclusion that much of what passes for the “church” of Jesus Christ, is actually a false and immense religious system that lies under God’s just condemnation.  They have rejected Christ’s Word and don’t realize that this very Word will be used by Jesus to judge them at the last day.  Let us with trembling and fear pray for those who are lost and preach the wonderful gospel of our salvation to them.  Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, died upon the cross for our sins taking the punishment that we deserve satisfying God’s justice and wrath, and was raised from the dead the third day, victorious over sin and death, and He now gives eternal life to all who will repent of their sin and put their faith in Him.  Beloved our Savior sits at the right hand of God the Father interceding for us until He returns to this earth.  Amen!

As the beloved of Christ, we must stand in awe and in fear of His Holy Word because it comes from our Holy God, and is His Holy Word to us.  Jesus Christ enables us by His Holy Spirit to believe and receive His Word, initially for salvation, and thereafter for edification.  May we be careful to read, study, know and share the wonderful Word of God.  Praise God for His mercy and grace given to us through His Son Who spoke the very Word of God, and still speaks this same Word to those who will listen to that Prophet given by God to us.

1 God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, 2 has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds; 3 who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, 4 having become so much better than the angels, as He has by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they.  Hebrews 1:1-4

Heavenly Father, may we glorify You by listening to and obeying Jesus Christ, and so glorify Your Son Whom You sent into the world and gave the very words of eternal life.  We praise You for the glorious gift of salvation given to us only through faith in Your Son Jesus Christ. In Jesus name I pray.  Amen!
