We can see many parallels between what Jesus encountered and confronted in the temple in Jerusalem, and what is occurring within the visible church which claims to be of Christ. The visible church has become a huge marketing organization for the selling of all manner of “Christian” merchandise. If this resulted in the sale of items emblazoned with Bible verses and the sale of the NKJV and KJV Bibles then perhaps it wouldn’t be so bad, but this marketing organization is set up so that heresy and apostasy are broadcast in the name of Christ so that sinners can make a huge profit from the sales of their despicable destructive damnable false teaching. A case in point is William P. Young, who made over $10.5 million dollars as a 2010 with the sale of his heretical work The Shack. The more I read about the origins of this wicked work the more I am ashamed of the visible church, because the promotion of The Shack could have been stopped many times throughout its advancement. I guess the lure of a fast buck and the furthering of end-time heresy was more important than the truth of the Scriptures.
15 So they came to Jerusalem. Then Jesus went into the temple and began to drive out those who bought and sold in the temple, and overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who sold doves. 16 And He would not allow anyone to carry wares through the temple. 17 Then He taught, saying to them, “Is it not written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer for all nations’? But you have made it a ‘den of thieves’”. 18 And the scribes and the chief priests heard it and sought how they might destroy Him; for they feared Him, because all the people were astonished at His teaching. Mark 11:15-18
Young worked with two former pastors in the writing and promotion of The Shack. As a matter of fact, they got involved in a heated lawsuit over royalties and authorship rights. Should not those former pastors been concerned about the theological content of the book? That the author was promoting anti-biblical doctrine? After it was published sales were low until it gained popularity through word of mouth promotion within the visible church and through “Christian” media.
Did not anyone notice the error that was being promoted? Yes, there were those who spoke out, but their voices were muffled compared to the enthusiastic reception given to the book by so-called Christians. Shouldn’t they have considered the erroneous doctrine being taught in The Shack and rejected it outright? The sad truth is that so many who claim the name of Christian are anything but, and the vast majority do not know the Bible at all, nor are they taught it in a systematic way so they can spot and turn away from false teaching, being faithfully warned to turn from and avoid error. Instead the mantra of the day has become eat the meat and spit out the bones. What? That is nowhere taught in the Scriptures as the manner in which we are to deal with false teaching!
As of 2010, The Shack was number one on the Times Bestseller list for 70 weeks and had sold over 10 million copies. That was five years ago. Just think the genuine God given revival that could take place in the visible church and in our society if instead “Christians” read the Word of God, studying it to show themselves approved, rightly dividing its truth. There wouldn’t be this capitulation to all manner of evil within the visible church that we are witnessing right now. However, we must keep in mind that God’s elect are always the remnant amongst a wicked and perverse generation.
Mainly I am writing this in response to a very troubling and sad video put out by Kent Hovind in which he endorses The Shack, saying that God gave this story to Young (!?), that Young made multiple millions on the book(!?), that God has used it to bless others (!?) and that he, Kent, is planning on publishing a series of books that recount his prayers to God during his time in prison($$$). Please be warned and be aware to not purchase Kent Hovind’s books. He has proven himself unfaithful in standing for the faith once for all delivered to the saints. His goal appears to be, from the video that I displayed on my post about his release from prison, to make money. He wants to make merchandise of believers and nonbelievers alike. I will include the video in this post also; watch it, keep in mind the things that Kent Hovind attests to from his own words. Most importantly note that he never compares what Young has said with what God has recorded for us in His inspired, infallible, inerrant, preserved Word.
1 But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction. 2 And many will follow their destructive ways, because of whom the way of truth will be blasphemes. 3 By covetousness they will exploit you with deceptive words; for a long time their judgment has not been idle, and their destruction does not slumber. 2 Peter 2:1-3
As the children of God through repentant faith in Christ Jesus we must oppose any and all who are working to make merchandise of God’s children and who promote a way that is in opposition to God’s way. We must follow Christ’s lead and expose, reprove and reject them, praying that perhaps God will grant them repentance so they can escape from the snare having been taken captive by Satan to do his will.
We may be questioned about our stance against Kent Hovind and The Shack, but we have to keep in mind that we must answer to God and not to man. Jesus Christ is the One in authority, and Dr. Hovind, William Young and all of his followers will answer to Him for this gross apostasy. In the meantime, Jesus will make the hypocrisy of all perfectly clear to His children so they can be warned and turn away from Kent and reject the movie that is supposed to be produced based upon The Shack.
27 Then they came again to Jerusalem. And as He was walking in the temple, the chief priests, the scribes and the elders came to Him. 28 And they said to Him, “By what authority are You doing these things? And who gave You this authority to do these things?” 29 But Jesus answered and said to them, “I also will ask you one question; then answer Me, and I will tell you by what authority I do these things: 30 The baptism of John—was it from heaven or from men? Answer Me.” 31 And they reasoned among themselves, saying, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ He will say, ‘Why then did you not believe him?’ 32 “But if we say, ‘From men’”—they feared the people, for all counted John to have been a prophet indeed. 33 So they answered and said to Jesus, “We do not know.” And Jesus answered and said to them, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.” Mark 11:27-33
Lord Jesus Christ, I want to thank you again for Your work through Your genuine Body to make known and warn against all who turn from the truth of Your Word and instead embrace the fallen fickle faulty wisdom of man. We praise Your name. Amen!
