In this chapter God forbids the worship of Molech. Molech as the fire-god of the Ammonites and was appeased through the sacrifice of one’s children to this idol. This is great evil that never came into the mind of God. The Jews did not obey God in this prohibition and it proved to be instrumental in their destruction. This wicked worship was practiced by the Jews of Jerusalem before their holy God and He brought His judgment through the Babylonian nation upon His people for their sin.
1 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 2 “Again, you shall say to the children of Israel: ‘Whoever of the children of Israel, or of the strangers who dwell in Israel, who gives any of his descendants to Molech, he shall surely be put to death. The people of the land shall stone him with stones. 3 I will set My face against that man and will cut him off from his people, because he has given some of his descendants to Molech, to defile My sanctuary and profane My holy name. 4 And if the people of the land should in any way hide their eyes from the man, when he gives some of his descendants to Molech, and they do not kill him, 5 then I will set My face against that man and against his family; and I will cut him off from his people, and all who prostitute themselves with him to commit harlotry with Molech. Leviticus 20:1-5
33 ‘And they have turned to Me the back, and not the face; though I taught them, rising up early and teaching them, yet they have not listened to receive instruction. 34 But they set their abominations in the house which is called by My name, to defile it. 35 And they built the high places of Baal which are in the Valley of the Son of Hinnom, to cause their sons and daughters to pass through the fire to Molech, which I did not command them, nor did it come into My mind that they should do this abomination, to cause Judah to sin.’ 36 Now therefore, thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, concerning this city of which you say, ‘It shall be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence’: Jeremiah 32:33-36
Why did these people of God, called by Him, Who proved to them His power and might on their behalf, Who sent His prophets early teaching them to turn from their wicked ways and turn back to Him, why did they do such wicked things? They were controlled by their human nature; they wanted their ways and not God’s ways. They believed that appeasing Molech with their own babies would give them the things they greatly desired.
For decades we’ve witnessed another form of child sacrifice throughout our land, abortion. Why do women bring themselves to an abortion clinic to have their babies murdered? There are many reasons, most centered on the desire to live without the obligations of raising a child. A woman engages in premarital sex and rather than have a child derail her ambitions and goals she gets an abortion. Sometimes the woman is ambivalent but is driven to abortion by her “boyfriend” or family members who don’t want the inconvenience of an unplanned baby spoiling their reputations or lives. Maybe some young mothers to be would reject the notion of abortion if they were not so thoroughly brain washed by the propaganda of the progressives and Planned Parenthood who call the developing baby, fetal tissue, or product of conception or any other terminology to get the woman’s mind and emotions away from the fact that she is allowing the murder of her baby! Maybe if women had the same access to the truth about abortion and the support and options that are available for them and their babies, they would do what their consciences tell them, keep their baby.
Two lives go into the abortion clinic; one life comes out irrevocably changed. The woman will have the guilt, immense hurt and feeling of betrayal, if she was pressured to have an abortion. Having her baby killed will impact her for the rest of her life, if she has any kind of conscience. Other women, women who have seared consciences, have multiple abortions believing it is an acceptable form of birth control. They sacrifice the lives of their children to pleasure and privilege, bowing to the god of self.
Can we expect that God will not judge this land, this world for the carnage of aborted babies whose blood has filled the earth and cries out to God Almighty? God promises just judgment, this earth is primed and ready. The visible church is just as guilty as those who God warned not to hide their eyes from the sin of worshiping Molech. What has happened in America? We are witnesses to greater degradation and wickedness and it has come home to roost in the church. The First Baptist church of Greenville, SC, a former SBC member, now allows practicing homosexuals and transgenders to preach and teach in their church, in addition to supporting homosexual marriage. The evil will only grow worse and worse, that is what happened in Israel and that is what is happening in America. We should, as believers in Jesus Christ, repent and return to the Lord Jesus Christ with our hearts torn over our sin and minds determined to stand fast with the Lord and hold true to His Word.
Jesus Christ loves children, identified with children and expects His church to stand up for the lives and well-being of children. How can we ignore what is occurring and not do what we can to help these children? If we want true revival, we need to do what the Lord leads us to do about the evil practice of abortion that is being practiced in America. God bless us.
1 At that time the disciples came to Jesus, saying, “Who then is greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” 2 Then Jesus called a little child to Him, set him in the midst of them, 3 and said, “Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven. 4 Therefore whoever humbles himself as this little child is greatest in the kingdom of heaven. 5 Whoever receives one little child like this in My name receives Me. 6 But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to sin, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were drowned in the depth of the sea. 7 Woe to the world because of offenses! For offenses must come, but woe to that man by whom the offense comes!” Matthew 18:1-7
