God’s Good Word: Leviticus 18

The visible “Christian” church loves this world and wants the world to love it back.  It is willing to accept all manner of evil behavior in order to be culturally relevant.  That includes accepting and promoting homosexuality in violation of God’s prohibition against this wicked behavior.  As the church becomes more like the world it loses its preserving influence and instead becomes a stinking cesspool of wickedness like the culture around it.  In Leviticus chapter eighteen, God warns the Israelites to not do what the nations surrounding them do.  God warns them that He visits punishment upon the land of the wicked nations because it is defiled by their iniquity, with the result that the inhabitants are vomited out of the land by natural disasters.  Do this sound at all familiar?

1 Then the Lord spoke to Moses saying, 2 “Speak to the children of Israel, and say to them:  ‘I am the Lord your God.  3 According to the doings of the land of Egypt, where you dwelt, you shall not do; and according to the doings of the land of Canaan, where I am bringing you, you shall not do; nor shall you walk in their ordinances. 4 You shall observe My judgments and keep My ordinances, to walk in them:  I am the Lord your God.  5 You shall therefore keep My statutes and My judgments, which if a man does, he shall live by them:  I am the Lord.  6 None of you shall approach anyone who is near of kin to him, to uncover his nakedness:  I am the Lord…20 Moreover you shall not lie carnally with your neighbor’s wife, to defile yourself with her….22 You shall not lie with a male as with a woman.  It is an abomination.  23 Nor shall you mate with any animal, to defile yourself with it.  Nor shall any woman stand before an animal to mate with it.  It is perversion.  24 Do not defile yourselves with any of these things; for by all these the nations are defiled, which I am casting out before you.  25 For the land is defiled; therefore I visit the punishment of its iniquity upon it, and the land vomits out its inhabitants.  Leviticus 18:1-6, 22-25

It is tragic that we live at a time and in a country in which anything goes, from no fault divorce, to abortion, to all manner of sexual perversion, and the church is supposed to go along to get along.  And many within the visible church are eager to do just that.  They reject the Lord and His commandments.  It kind of makes you wonder why they even bother calling themselves church, it must be the devil’s means of deceiving so many.  The call to live separate lives of holiness is echoed throughout the Scriptures and especially in Ephesians chapter five.  As God’s special children, chosen for His glory, may we live for Him by godly living through walking in the Spirit and obeying His glorious Word.  God bless us.

1 Therefore be imitators of God as dear children.  2 And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma.  3 But fornication and all uncleanness or covetousness, let it not even be named among you, as is fitting for saints; 4 neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks.  5 For this you know, that no fornicator, unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.  6 Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.  7 Therefore do not be partakers with them.  8 For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord.  Walk as children of light 9 (for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth), 10 finding out what is acceptable to the Lord.  11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them.  12 For it is shameful even to speak of those things which are done by them in secret.  Ephesians 5:1-12

One Response to God’s Good Word: Leviticus 18

  1. Great piece, Eliza. I’ve blogged several messages on the same topic at lloydstebbins.com. Thank you for your “likes.”
Many believers view the Bible as their guidance or handbook for life. However, much of Scripture is written in the active voice. The “guidance” is more like commands from the commanding general of the universe. The essence of a command is that it is 1) non-negotiable, 2) not optional, and 3) “do it now.” Command-like language runs throughout the Bible, whether or not the specific word “command” is used.
The body of believers has lost sight of the urgency of Scripture. As such, we are facilitating–in some cases even promoting–the abysmal fall of America.
