Worldly Love

This past week, while shopping at Target with my husband, he met a man who was a rock and roll enthusiast.  My husband sometimes wears a Bob Marley t-shirt, which caused the other man to talk to him about an event at a park close to our home.  The event was a rock concert in honor of the Grateful Dead.  They continued to talk about past concerts, etc. and I was given an opportunity to say something when it was revealed that I don’t care for rock music.  The other gentleman was surprised to find that we were still married even though we disagreed about the kind of music we listen to(?!).  I told the man, who was around our age, that I knew Jesus Christ, believed and obeyed His Word the Bible, and turned from rock and roll music because of its worldliness and ungodliness.  He promptly responded that he knew Jesus and it was okay with Jesus for him to go to rock concerts. Then he told me that this side of heaven nobody is perfect and said, “Keep smiling.”  A few seconds later, after he left, I said loud enough for him to hear, “But we are called to obedience.”  My husband was a little bothered by this exchange, but the Lord had given me the opportunity to say something, and so I did, even though I knew my husband wouldn’t like it.

Worldly love is a lying love and keeps us in bondage with this wicked world system.  I had serious doubts about this man’s salvation and I prayed the Lord would use what I said for his help and serious consideration.  So many who claim the name of Christ, when I have exhorted them with the truth adopt a position of superiority and reject what I have said.  They counter with the same sort of rationalization that this man declared, but ultimately these rejections of godly exhortation demonstrate where one’s affections and loyalties lie, and it isn’t with the Lord Jesus Christ.

15 Do not love the world or the things in the world.  If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.  16 For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world.  17 And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.  18 Little children, it is the last hour; and as you have heard that the Antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come, by which we know it is the last hour.  19 They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us; but they went out that they might be made manifest, that none of them were of us.  20 But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you know all things.  1 John 2:15-20

Brothers and sisters, this love of the world is serious business, because it not only proves the one loving the world does not have the love of the Father, it is also a means of departing from the faith once for all delivered to the saints, and then leads to following the wiles of the devil taught by little antichrists who reject the testimony of the Scriptures and prefer the vain wicked meanderings of lying liars telling lies.

I sure would like to know what church that man attended.  So many churches have left the love of the Lord Jesus Christ and have instead embraced the lies of the world because the love of the Father is not in them.  They justify and rationalize their departing from the things of God by stating that “God is love”, but He is also Holy, He is a consuming fire and we must fear!  Or they state, “This is how we must reach the young people today”, when they are proving they love the world more than Jesus Christ and the truth through using man-made gimmicks for reaching the lost rather than sharing our all-powerful Savior and His glorious truth from the Scriptures.  These are all part of the end-time harlot church and are leading many astray by embracing the things of the world such as the ecumenical CCM and the “judge not philosophy” that leaves all exposed and powerless against the lies of the enemy.  God gives us His remedy from His Word for those who have loved the world, leaving their first love for Jesus Christ, in the epistle of James, but have been quickened by the Spirit of grace, mercy and holiness, the Holy Spirit, to repent.

4 Adulterers and adulteresses!  Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God?  Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.  5 Or do you think that the Scriptures says in vain, “The Spirit who dwells in us yearns jealously”?  6 But He gives more grace.  Therefore He says:  “God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.”  7 Therefore submit to God.  Resist the devil and he will flee from you.  8 Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.  Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.  9 Lament and mourn and weep!  Let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to gloom.  10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.  James 4:4-10

Admit your sin!  Repent and draw near to God!  Mourn and wail over your defection from the truth and treachery against our glorious God and Savior, Jesus Christ.  Resist those fleshly desires led on by the devil and call upon the name of Jesus Christ; He will deliver you!  Humbly confess before your God your wickedness and submit to Him and His truth.  If the Holy Spirit has wrought this work in your heart rejoice and exult in God your Savior.  Draw near to your God for His strength, pray without ceasing and delve deeply into His glorious Word.  The Lord God Himself will deliver you from worldly love and establish you in His truth, the Holy Bible.  Let us throw off the works of darkness and pursue holiness without which no one will see the Lord.  God bless us.

14 Pursue peace will all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord: 15 looking carefully lest anyone fall short of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up cause trouble, and by this many become defiled;  Hebrews 12:14-15

22 Flee also youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.  2 Timothy 2:22

13 Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; 14 as obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the former lusts, as in your ignorance; 15 but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, 16 because it is written, “Be holy, for I am holy.”  1 Peter 1:13-16

This gentleman has one foot in the world, or possibly both feet. Verbal professions are meaningless if a life of obedience isn’t lived according to His word. Multitudes want to continue in their old ways, which includes listening to the ungodly music that permeates the land. Most of the rock music is heavily influenced by Satan, this video series is quite interesting – https://youtu.be/QSByCxGXXeM?list=PLS7pp5WLIe81b0JQRHAlwsEQ7iarFZJ_S

The doctrine of repentance is sorely missing from most professing Christians’ lives. We are to spend the rest of our time on this earth mortifying sin, putting it to death {Col. 3:5}. That doesn’t mean we continue to indulge in worldly pleasures, which is what rock music is. It plays on the emotions, which is the ‘guide’ for most people. Emotions can trigger behavior, good or bad; in an unregenerate heart, the trigger is usually geared toward bad. The lyrics of rock music glorifies Satan and not a thrice holy God. The law of Thelema is “Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law. Love is the law, love under will.” The law of Thelema was developed in the early 1900s by Aleister Crowley, a known Satanist. This ‘motto’ is wildly popular in the lyrics of rock songs – https://drugs-forum.com/forum/blog.php?b=754
In the making of his video ‘run this town’, Jay Z sported a sweatshirt with ‘do what thou wilt’ on the front, which is Satanic. {source – http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=112998783} Many young people are heavily influenced by both this man and his wife.
The battle is in the mind, what you put into your mind dictates your behavior and beliefs. If you continue to cling to the world and feed your mind with a steady diet of trash, like rock music, you prove yourself to be a hater of God. Those who truly love God will feed upon His word and desire to walk in obedience to it, they will have disdain for this world and the things the world deems important, significant, and worthwhile will no longer have a hold on them. They will see it’s all dung – this is only possible IF the Holy Spirit has regenerated the sinner, if they’ve been born again. If not, then lip service is all they’ll give as they live for the world and die in their sins.

Pointing out the dangers of the Satanically influenced entertainment industry will always lead to one being labeled as judgmental or legalistic – so be it. Standing firm on truth and separating from the world is what all true sheep do, for we hear our Master’s voice and desire to please Him.

As for CCM there have been many of it’s “artists” to show their true colors after having built a huge and unmovable fan base. It’s almost as if they are daring anyone to hold them to a standard of Biblical holiness instead of their own self-generated standard of “love”. Some have recently confessed to being atheists and are still revered by their worshippers. Some (many?) are openly practicing homosexuals (how many in the closet only God knows) and because the new “love” reigns supreme over the mindless, their continued acceptance is assured.

Concerning the “judge not philosophy” that has long ago overrun those who do not study Scripture, it is a classic example of ‘guilt transference’ that is so widely and successfully used by false prophets. Dare to expose the evils of this world and individuals and be treated to a (hateful) recitation of Matt. 7:1. How many have gone away in silence with their tail tucked between their legs and an over powering guilt laid on them by a wicked person? I suppose all of us at one time or another. But no more.

Then there is the apparent mindset of the man you spoke with. He was playing the ‘liberty card’ which is nothing more than excusing his love for his sins and slapping a “Christian” sticker on it. Going hand in hand with the quote from Aleister Crowley provided by Lyn is another quote so often employed by those of the (so-called) reformed camp: “In essentials unity; in non-essentials, LIBERTY; in all things CHARITY.” One of Phil Johnson’s favorite quotes to deflect pesky questions that if he were to answer honestly and Biblically would destroy his fantasy playhouse and his fake god. This nonsense has found favor with the “reformed” as they like to say that there are three tiers of doctrines, primary, secondary, and tertiary. Primary including only those doctrines they deem necessary for salvation, which, by their own scheme of things EXCLUDES the Trinity and the Virgin Birth. Wow! How magnanimous of them!! How pious and arrogant and UNBIBLICAL. Yet this is their motto. The origin of the above quote is straight out of the Masonic handbook and has been around in pagan circles for centuries, yet only recently “Christianized” by the champions of current “reformed” thinking. “CURRENT reformed thinking”, not the classical theology that lead the church away from Rome.

Thank you for the excellent expose of the reformed crowd. I had an interesting email exchange with Phil Johnson in which I feigned support of and belief in the doctrinal aberrations of C. S. Lewis. He wouldn’t rebuke Lewis, but he certainly did rightly rebuke me for holding to the false teaching that Lewis taught. They excuse the money machine, I mean Lewis, with the saying, “he was messy with his theology”, but rebuke others. What hypocrisy!

Additionally, MacArthur quotes Lewis in his book about biblical doctrine Hard to Believe, and when asked by another believer, John confirmed that Lewis was a Christian, even though Lewis believed and taught baptismal regeneration, prayers for the dead, purgatory, that followers of other religions can be saved apart from conscience faith in Christ by following those principles within their false religion that follow tenets of the Christian faith, the Scriptures are not the infallible, inspired, inerrant Word of God, mankind is not depraved, and Jesus Christ did not take our punishment upon the cross. Since these false doctrines that Lewis believed and taught are plainly expressed in his books Mere Christianity and The Problem of Pain, I find it hard to believe that John MacArthur would be ignorant of them.

Another proponent of the reformed doctrine who embraces Lewis is Sproul, who happens to be a preterist. This false teaching emanated from Augustine. For John Piper, perhaps this infatuation with Lewis can explain the apparent departure from orthodoxy by John Piper who has accepted Rick Warren. Piper attributed all sorts of spiritual blessings to Lewis from reading his books, blessings that can only come from the Holy Spirit revealing His truth to us from the Bible. Yes, there is much apostasy within the visible church and we as Christ’s called out ones must reject and avoid all that contaminates our spirits and our flesh. God bless us.

Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God. 2 Corinthians 7:1

See this post about Piper and Lewis.
