As God’s dearly beloved children we have no reason to fear the law. Its requirements have been met through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and when He died upon the cross He took those requirements that stood against us, nailing them to the cross. As born again children of God through faith in our Savior Jesus Christ, Lord of glory, Lord of all, we through the Spirit fulfill the righteous requirements of the love by abiding by Christ’s commandment to love one another.
13 And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses, 14 having wiped out the handwriting of the requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. Colossians 2:13-14
31 Do we then make void the law through faith? Certainly not! On the contrary, we establish the law. Romans 3:31
8 Owe no one anything except to love one another, for he who loves another has fulfilled the law. 9 For the commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not bear false witness,” “You shall not covet,” and if there is any other commandment, are all summed up in this saying, namely, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” 10 Love does no harm to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law. Romans 13:8-10
God uses His law to convict sinners of their transgressions against His holiness and it is used to bring them to Christ Jesus for forgiveness of their transgressions and reconciliation to God the Father.
24 Therefore the law was out tutor to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith. 25 But after faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor. 26 For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. 27 For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise. Galatians 3:24-29
The law does not have bearing in the life of the believer, since we are called to that standard of loving God and loving others. The law is used primarily against the world, to hold it accountable to God and to expose unholy, wicked godlessness.
19 Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. 20 Therefore by the deeds of the law no flesh will be justified in His sight, for by the law is the knowledge of sin. Romans 3:19-20
8 But we know that the law is good if one uses it lawfully, 9 knowing this: that the law is not made for a righteous person, but for the lawless and insubordinate, for the ungodly and for sinners, for the unholy and profane, for murderers of father and murderers of mothers, for manslayers, 10 for fornicators, for sodomites, for kidnappers, for liars, for perjurers, and if there is any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine. 1 Timothy 1:8-10
It does not matter if the laws of a nation are contrary to God’s law, His law stands and is the final judge in the life of every single human being upon this earth. It is His law encoded in His Word, the Holy Scriptures that He uses to hold all of mankind accountable and answerable to Him. None shall escape and none shall proffer an excuse. Only repentant sinners, who have placed their faith in Jesus Christ have received the gift of eternal life and have a new nature that loves God and others and seeks to please their Savior. Even if leaders of any nation reject the law of God, His children can cheerfully, with thanksgiving and praise to their glorious Savior share the gospel of their salvation with the lost relying on God for the increase of His kingdom. God bless us.
22 But the Scripture has confined all under sin, that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe. Galatians 3:22
25 Now to Him who is able to establish you according to my gospel and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery kept secret since the world began 26 but now made manifest, and by the prophetic Scriptures made known to all nations, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, for obedience to the faith—27 to God, alone wise, be glory through Jesus Christ forever. Amen. Romans 16:25-27
