In the last post we looked at Christ’s intercession for His beloved brethren. That leads us to our next blessing that we have in Christ Jesus that we are considered His brethren and therefore share in the blessings that are bestowed upon Him as the Son of God. What amazing grace and love! We can go back to the book of Hebrews to find the declaration that through faith in Christ Jesus He is not ashamed to call us His brethren because we are sanctified by Him through His work of sanctification on our behalf.
11 For both He who sanctifies and those who are being sanctified are all of one, for which reason He is not ashamed to call them brethren, 12 saying: “I will declare Your name to My brethren; In the midst of the assembly I will sing praise to You.” 13 And again: “I will put My trust in Him.” And again: “Here am I and the children whom God has given Me.” Hebrews 2:11-13
We are one with Christ in our loving relationship with God our Father because Jesus Christ has reconciled us to God through His death upon the cross and resurrection from the dead on our behalf. It is God’s great mercy, grace and love that have brought us from the death of sin and God’s wrath to the life of His redeeming favor and eternity with Him, glorying and worshiping our Great God and Savior. Thank you Heavenly Father for the love given to us through Your Son Jesus Christ for Your praise and glory!
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, 4 just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, 5 having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, 6 to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved. 7 In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace 8 which He made to abound toward us in all wisdom and prudence, 9 having made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His good pleasure which He purposed in Himself, 10 that in the dispensation of the fullness of the times He might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven and which are on earth—in Him. Ephesians 1:3-10
We have been blessed by God our Father with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ. We are accepted in Christ Jesus the Beloved and are holy and without blame before Him because of His love with which He loved us. We are His adopted children by Jesus Christ. We are redeemed through the blood of the Lamb, having forgiveness of sins so that we will all be gathered together to Christ and dwell with God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ for all eternity. Since we are His beloved brethren the blessings through Christ abound toward us.
15 Therefore, I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, 16 do not cease to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers: 17 that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, 18 the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, 19 and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power 20 which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, 21 far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come. 22 And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church, 23 which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all. Ephesians 1:15-23
As the beloved children of God, as Christ’s beloved brethren, His church, His body, we have His mighty power working in us and for us. We have this wonderful hope of His calling that is rich with His great and mighty promises so that we can share in His divine nature and reject the corruption that is in the world through lust.
1 Simon Peter, a bondservant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who have obtained like precious faith with us by the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ: 2 Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, 3 as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, 4 by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. 2 Peter 1:1-4
As God’s beloved children, and the brethren of Christ Jesus we are called to live for Him. We are to live soberly and righteously in this present age while we await the return of Christ. He calls us to a holy calling of following Him, and staying true to Him regardless of the suffering we may endure.
5 But for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, 6 to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance to perseverance godliness, 7 to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love. 8 For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 For he who lacks these things is shortsighted, even to blindness, and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins. 10 Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make you call and election sure, for if you do these thing you will never stumble; 11 for so an entrance will be supplied to you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. 2 Peter 1:5-11
The precious promises given to us so that we may share in the divine nature empower us to live in such a way that we will be received with all willingness, blessedness and glory into the everlasting kingdom of Jesus Christ. Since we are His brethren, we are supplied by His Holy Spirit and we are promised that we are His joint heirs.
11 But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you. 12 Therefore, brethren, we are debtors—not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. 13 For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. 14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. 15 For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.” 16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, 17 and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together. 18 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. Romans 8:11-18
Through faith in Jesus Christ we belong to Him and His Father. We are filled with His Spirit, given great and precious promises that we may share in the divine nature, heirs with Christ and will spend eternity with Him in His kingdom. We will literally share in His glory. What amazing grace and blessedness! This great gift of salvation and eternal life with Christ Jesus our Lord and Savior far surpasses any hopes, dreams, schemes, or worldly goals that have entranced our minds and hearts while we pass through this world that is not our home. This is the antidote for the poison all of those empty and vile prosperity teachers are passing out to those whose eyes are blinded by the lies of Satan. Those who adhere to the false prosperity doctrine are condemned to a horrific eternity in hell even while they may be enjoying their best life on this earth, that is until they meet the Judge of all mankind. We, who are the brethren of Christ through faith in Him, will suffer here because we love Jesus and desire to live godly lives. God’s promise to us is that we will share in His glory, and what awaits us far surpasses any fleeting satisfaction that we may have sacrificed for Christ’s sake. Praise God for His good kindness given to us through Jesus Christ.
13 But we are bound to give thanks to God always for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God from the beginning chose you for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth, 14 to which He called you by our gospel, for the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Thessalonians 2:13-14
