Separation

As the children of Israel were getting ready to enter the land promised to them by God their Father, He gave explicit instructions to Moses for His nation regarding their interactions with the peoples around them.

50 Now the Lord spoke to Moses in the plains of Moab by the Jordan, across from Jericho, saying, 51 “Speak to the children of Israel, and say to them:  ‘When you have crossed the Jordan into the land of Canaan, 52 then you shall drive out all the inhabitants of the land from before you, destroy all their engraved stones, destroy all their molded images, and demolish all their high places; 53 you shall dispossess the inhabitants of the land and dwell in it, for I have given you the land to possess.  54 ‘And you shall divide the land by lot as an inheritance among your families; to the larger you shall give a larger inheritance, and to the smaller you shall give a smaller inheritance; there everyone’s inheritance shall be whatever falls to him by lot.  You shall inherit according to the tribes of your fathers.  55 ‘But if you do not drive out the inhabitants of the land from before you, then it shall be that those whom you let remain shall be irritants in your eyes and thorns in your sides, and they shall harass you in the land where you dwell.  56 ‘Moreover it shall be that I will do to you as I thought to do to them.’”  Numbers 33:50-56

In the same way the Lord God Almighty commands His church to separate from any who would corrupt her purity by introducing false doctrine and/or sinful practices.  God our Father warns us about the corrupting influences that allowing sinful practice or false doctrine will have upon His blood bought bride.

1 It is actually reported that there is sexual immorality among you, and such sexual immorality as is not even named among the Gentiles—that a man has his father’s wife!  2 And you are puffed up, and have not rather mourned, that he who has done this deed might be taken away from among you.  3 For I indeed, as absent in body but present in spirit, have already judged (as thought I were present) him who has so done this deed.  4 In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when you are gathered together, along with my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ, 5 deliver such a one to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.  6 Your glorying is not good.  Do you not know that a little leaven leavens the whole lump?  7 Therefore, purge out the old leaven, that you may be a new lump, since you truly are unleavened.  For indeed Christ, our Passover, was sacrificed for us.  8 Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, nor with the leaven of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.  9 I wrote you in my epistle not to keep company with the sexually immoral people.  10 Yet I certainly did not mean with the sexually immoral people of this world, or with the covetous, or extortioners, or idolaters, since then you would need to go out of the world.  11 But now I have written to you not to keep company with anyone named a brother, who is sexually immoral, or covetous, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or an extortioner—not to even eat with such a person.  12 For what have I to do with judging those also who are outside?  Do you not judge those who are inside?  13 But those who are outside God judges.  Therefore “put away from yourselves the evil person.”  1 Corinthians 5:1-13

In this passage Paul deals with the problem of sinning brothers, or so-called brethren.  His command and remedy is to separate from those who abide in willful deliberate sinful behavior.  He then gives examples that will be blatantly obvious, one such behavior being sexual immorality.  As God’s holy bride called to live righteous and separated lives, we must separate from anyone who calls themselves a believer in Christ Jesus but practices unrepentant sexual immorality, which includes homosexuality.  Do not be deceived brethren, those who are living in homosexual sin and call themselves “Christian” desire to see the church remade into their image, an image of corrupt debauchery and evil.  As God’s dearly beloved children we must separate from them and from those who have or are inclined to accept their perverted behavior as normal.    God’s holy and perfect bride must be separate from these corrupting influences.

1 Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.  2 Indeed I, Paul, say to you that if you become circumcised, Christ will profit you nothing.  3 And I testify again to every man who becomes circumcised that he is a debtor to keep the whole law.  4 You have become estranged from Christ, you who attempt to be justified by law; you have fallen from grace.  5 For we through the Spirit eagerly wait for the hope of righteousness by faith.  6 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything, but faith working through love.  7 You ran well.  Who hindered you from obeying the truth?  8 This persuasion does not come from Him who calls you.  9 A little leaven leavens the whole lump.  10 I have confidence in you, in the Lord, that you will have no other mind; but he who troubles you shall bear his judgment, whoever he is.  11 And I, brethren, if I still preach circumcision, why do I still suffer persecution?  Then the offense of the cross has ceased.  12 I could wish that those who trouble you would even cut themselves off!  13 For you, brethren, have been called to liberty; only do not use liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.  14 For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this:  “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”  15 But if you bite and devour one another, beware lest you be consumed by one another!  16 I say then:  Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.  17 For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish.  18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.  Galatians 5:1-18

In this passage Paul is warning the Galatians that accepting a works centered faith results in bondage and a fall from grace.  The Judaizers were replacing the gospel of our salvation, that Christ died on the cross for our sins and was resurrected from the dead for our justification, with a works centered justification where those who desired salvation must be circumcised.  Any doctrine that adds any kind of works to what Christ has done on our behalf is not the gospel and must be rejected.  We must not entertain any doctrine that takes away from Christ’s perfect work of salvation on behalf of sinners who repent of their sin and put their faith in Him.  So we see again that we are to separate ourselves from those who purport to be believers but by their sinful behavior or perverted demonic doctrines prove that they are either sinning brethren, and must be rejected, or they are unbelievers, and must be rejected.  To be sure we should reprove the sinning brethren, but if they refuse to repent we must not keep company with them that they may be ashamed and repent.

13 But as for you, brethren, do not grow weary in doing good.  14 And if anyone does not obey our word in this epistle, note that person and do not keep company with him, that he may be ashamed.  15 Yet do not count him as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother.  2 Thessalonians 3:13-15

17 Now I urge you, brethren, note those who cause divisions and offenses, contrary to the doctrine which you learned, and avoid them.  18 For those who are such do not serve our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly, and by smooth words and flattering speech deceive the hearts of the simple.  19 For your obedience has become known to all.  Therefore I am glad on your behalf; but I want you to be wise in what is good, and simple concerning evil.  20 And the God of peace will crush Satan under your feet shortly.  The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.  Amen.  Romans 16:17-20

The leadership within in the SBC, namely Al Mohler and Russell Moore, are flagrantly disobeying our Lord’s command to be separate from sinning brethren, and those who promote false doctrine.  They both disobeyed separation from those who sin and are so-called brethren when they met with the LGBT lobby in Tennessee over a week ago.  They both adopted language deemed appropriate by the homosexuals instead of favoring and repeating what the Bible says about homosexuality.  Now Russell Moore and Rick Warren are scheduled to appear at the Vatican’s conference on marriage and family later this month and both are slated to speak.  The Vatican embraces, endorses, and teaches a works based salvation.  Again, leaders within the SBC are not rejecting those who teach contrary to the doctrine that we have received, thus causing divisions and offenses.  My question is this:  Where is the outrage throughout the evangelical church?  Where are the godly leaders condemning this gross disobedience?  If you are a genuine believer in Jesus Christ and are a member of the SBC or attend an SBC church, you should separate from this apostate worldly organization and find fellowship that is faithful to the Word of God and our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  The following is what God has to say about those who reject His truth and turn to worldly wisdom and godless fellowship.

26 For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, 27 but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and fiery indignation which will devour the adversaries.  28 Anyone who has rejected Moses’ law dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses.  29  Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, will he be thought worthy who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, counted the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified a common thing, and insulted the Spirit of grace?  30 For we know Him who said, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord.  And again, “The Lord will judge His people.”  31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.  Hebrews 10:26-31

The leadership of the SBC has capitulated to the sinners and liars of the world.  Do they think that they will get away with it?   God’s Word clearly declares that they will be held accountable.  They must either repent or burn.  We must be faithful to our Heavenly Father and our glorious Lord and Savior Jesus Christ by the power of the indwelling Holy Spirit and reject those who reject Jesus Christ.  May we stand faithful for Him and His glory!  To God be the glory!

Eliza, this really is nothing new for either Moore or Mohler, or the SBC.

Russell Moore: “If Pope Francis wishes to reclaim the primacy of the gospel, he must simultaneously speak with kindness to those outside of its reach and speak of the need for good news.” http://erlc.com/article/some-thoughts-on-pope-francis

No, Mr Moore, if Pope Frances wishes to reclaim the primacy of the Gospel, he should stop preaching a false Gospel and repent.

How many “evangelical leaders” endorse and sing the praises of Mohler? I can think of many. He is all over the Grace to You blog, thereby John MacArthur is endorsing him and the SBC. How many genuine believers are being deceived by the SBC? How many of God’s sheep are being led astray by Rick Warren and his liberal. ecumenical, works centered gospel? There are so many who are deceived by these wicked workers. We need to warn others against these corrupt men and this corrupt institution. We need to exhort others to flee from wickedness and God’s just judgment upon these evildoers and their followers. Dialogue with the devil is not the answer. Preaching the truth of God’s Word and staying true to Him will bring about His work done His way.

Brethren, if anyone among you wanders from the truth, and someone turns him back, 20 let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save a soul from death and cover a multitude of sins. James 5:19-20

Eliza, the Scripture says not to lay hands quickly on any man. It is talking about endorsing a man for ministry (I Timothy 5).

I like to say that evangelicals are so quick and prolific with their ecclesiastical laying on of hands that they must get carpal tunnel syndrome. 🙂

I chuckled at what you wrote, but really this is a deadly serious business. The “evangelical church” is joining with the enemies of our Lord and Savior and so they are behaving like Judas Iscariot, By God’s great mercy and grace I was delivered from this rampant deception and brought to rely solely upon the Lord Jesus Christ and His glorious Word, the Bible. I can testify to the untold damage that listening to man’s wisdom sprinkled with Scripture can do to the life and heart of a child of God. We must warn, exhort, rebuke and reveal to God’s children those who are not obeying the gospel of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

I know, it is the sense of urgency that I have that prompts me to answer as I do. When the Lord was making me aware of the apostasy within the “evangelical church”, John W. Robbins and Brother David Cloud were the only believers who were speaking out about the apostasy of C. S. Lewis. My contact with GTY proved fruitless, and Philip Johnson would rebuke the error in others but not Lewis. Anyway, it is astounding to me that so many who have such large followings and great reputations as bible believing men of God would hesitate at all to rebuke error and heresy where ever it arises and warn the flock to avoid the heretics. God bless you:)

We just have to trust the Lord to, as you said, “make people aware.” It is like evangelism of the lost in some respects — you wish you could make people see, but you can’t.

Amen sister, amen. It’s past time to avoid men like MacArthur, P. Johnson, Mohler, Moore, and most ‘celebrity pastors’ who embrace what God hates. Most of these same men continued to befriend C.J. Mahaney when all the sexual abuse allegations were made known. Piper still befriends Driscoll, it’s as though God’s word lacks reverence with these types.

It’s time for the body of Christ to put aside and shun these men-pleasers and follow Christ and Him alone.

Amen! We do that by staying in the Scriptures, and refusing to be part of the machine that supports these ministries. We do that by sharing God’s Word with one another and encouraging one another daily. Thank you for your encouragement. God bless you:)

absolutely…we MUST separate from and shun what we see. Staying grounded in His word and NOT supporting these huge ministries, like JMac, is a must. MacArthur makes a half a mil a year! I find that very, very troubling, along with who he befriends as well as some of his troublesome teachings. There’s quite a bit of truth in this post – http://www.heavensroad.com/dont-fall-victim-to-a-cult-like-business-disguised-as-a-church.html
It seems some of these pastors are abusing God’s word and deceiving the sheep to build their empires. They surround themselves with men, like Phil Johnson, who speak for and defend them, as though these men are their ‘bodyguards’. Very strange….

I had an interesting email exchange with Phil Johnson where I feigned to believe the false teaching that C. S. Lewis promoted after Phil told me that Lewis was in heaven even though Lewis had problems with theology. I wanted to see what his response would be. He rebuked me even though He believed that Lewis was in heaven. Lewis disbelieved and contradicted the Word of God. He was an ecumenist who believed in universal salvation, that there were those who belonged to Christ without conscious faith in Him because of their adherence to some aspect of piety. He believed in purgatory and never had a sure testimony of faith in Christ. Now why would Johnson rebuke me, but accept Lewis as a believer? When I let him know what I had done he stopped all correspondence with me. John MacArthur quoted Lewis in his book Hard to Believe even though the false teaching he warned against was embraced and promoted by Lewis. This is one aspect of the wickedness that has ensnared the visible church and its leadership. Its all about making money and selling books. God bless you:)

How could Phil Johnson possibly know Lewis is in heaven? Amazing how these men love to claim who is in and who is out, as if they could possibly know what is God’s to know. I will leave that to God and make sure I am concentrating on working out my own salvation (living it out- not being saved) with fear and trembling.

And you are right. These professing supposed Christian leaders are all about the praises of men and the bu$ine$$ of religion,

    Hi Eliza

As a young Christian, 40 years ago, the Lord repeatedly told my wife and I to never compromise His Word; that He hates compromise of His Word, and the compromisers are not His. God is the Word, and the Word is God Jn1:1.

Sadly, many churches today are in apostasy, which is a fulfillment of the falling away mentioned in 2Th2:3, and taking many of their members into perdition! We really need to be separated unto God alone, no matter what!
