Jesus Christ knew and obeyed His Father’s will and served His Father for His glory alone. He came to do His Father’s will and to keep all those whom the Father has given to Him. Jesus Christ was sent by the Father to fulfill the work that He had given Him to do, to give eternal life to those given to Him by the Father. He delighted to do His Father’s will which was and still is to seek and to save that which was lost.
37 “All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will by no means cast out. 38 For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me. 39 This is the will of the Father who sent Me, that of all He has given Me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up at the last day. 40 And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have everlasting life; and I will raise him up at the last day.” John 6:37-40
1 Jesus spoke these words, lifted up His eyes to heaven, and said: “Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son, that Your Son also may glorify You, 2 as You have given Him authority over all flesh, that He should give eternal life to as many as You have given Him. 3 And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent. 4 I have glorified You on the earth. I have finished the work which You have given Me to do. 5 And now, O Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was.” John 17:1-5
9 And Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because he also is a son of Abraham; 10 for the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.” Luke 19:9-10
After Jesus Christ’s resurrection, before His ascension, He gave His marching orders to His church for all time. The church is to be focused and given to this work that Christ has instituted for His Father’s glory, His glory, and the glory of the church.
18 And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen. Matthew 28:18-20
This is the business of the church, God’s people, making converts and discipling them. Converts are made when the gospel is shared with sinners and the repent of their sins and believe the gospel; they place their faith in Jesus Christ. Believers are discipled as they are taught the Word of God and encouraged in their faith with loving exhortation and godly example by leadership who are following the Great Shepherd of the sheep.
21 And when they had preached the gospel to that city and made many disciples, they returned to Lystra, Iconium, and Antioch, 22 strengthening the souls of the disciples, exhorting them to continue in the faith, and saying, “We must through many tribulations enter the kingdom of God.” 23 So when they had appointed elders in every church, and prayed with fasting, they commended them to the Lord in whom they had believed. Acts 14:21-23
This purpose of the church has been hijacked and overturned by liberal “Christianity”. Liberal “Christianity has made numerous inroads into the evangelical church. Liberal “Christianity” is a devilish distraction from the purpose of the church. Liberal “Christianity” is a satanic strategy against sinners. Liberal “Christianity” puts evil for good and good for evil. Liberal “Christianity” attacks the supremacy of God’s Word and replaces the Scriptures with man’s tired and empty vacillations. Liberal “Christianity” rejects God’s standard of holiness and replaces it with what is abhorrent to His glory and purity. Liberal “Christianity” seeks to glorify perversion and squelch true godly rejection of evil. Many mainline liberal churches have not only accepted homosexuality, they also celebrate it. The sexual agenda of the liberals has infiltrated the visible evangelical church leading it into greater debauchery and apostasy. This can be seen by the softening of the stance of the SBC regarding homosexuality. The tone of the conference last week in Tennessee was a shift from declaring homosexuality sin to declaring it an orientation and then saying that there are homosexuals who have changed their orientation. Both Albert Mohler and Russell Moore used LGBT approved language rather than biblical language. Mohler repented of not using the term sexual orientation and Moore spoke about those who had changed their sexual orientation. Where is the proclamation of the gospel and the holy call to repent and believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross to save us from our sins and rose again from the dead for our justification and release from sin? Where is the sure conviction that the power of God in the life of the sinner transforms that sinner into a saint in both belief and practice? Changing sexual orientation has nothing to do with what God’s Word says about the transformation that God brings about in the sinner’s life through belief in the gospel, through faith in the Savior.
9 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, 10 nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God. 1 Corinthians 6:9-11
Moore and Mohler deny the gospel and its power in the life of the sinner through dialoguing with these sinners in need of salvation and by adopting the language of the LGBT crowd, rather than calling them sinners in need of repentant faith in Jesus Christ. This shift away from the gospel proclamation and toward the acceptance of homosexual sin is contrary to our Lord’s directives after He arose from the dead, before He ascended into heaven. To further compound this liberal distraction, the SBC has speakers, Russell Moore and Rick Warren, attending a marriage and family conference, “An International Interreligious Colloquium on the Complementarity of Man and Woman” which is sponsored by the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity and other Catholic entities. Recently Catholic Bishops expressed welcoming language towards homosexuals during an assembly to discuss family issues. The language was quickly changed in response to the protest of conservative Catholics. Mormons, Jews, Muslims, the Pope, bishops and priests are scheduled to speak at the conference. This attempt to clarify marriage and family, which God has already declared without stuttering in His Word, does not further the work of Jesus Christ in the soul of the sinner, but is a liberal distraction meant to bring about ecumenical unity and acceptance of what God has called an abomination. The holy call of God upon His church is to preach the gospel and then instruct the saints in righteous living and godly doctrine.
13 For if we are beside ourselves, it is for God; or if we are of sound mind, it is for you. 14 For the love of Christ compels us, because we judge thus: that if One died for all, then all died; 15 and He died for all, that those who live should live no longer for themselves, but for Him who died for them and rose again. 16 Therefore, from now on, we regard no one according to the flesh. Even though we have known Christ according to the flesh, yet now we know Him thus no longer. 17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. 18 Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation, 19 that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation. 20 Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God. 21 For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. 2 Corinthians 5:13-21
Let the saints of the Lord Jesus Christ reject the liberal agenda that is driving much of the church today and may we say with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, “We must be about our Father’s business.”
