Trials: Part 2

In Revelation chapters 2 and 3, within the letters to the seven churches Jesus Christ both warns and encourages the members of the seven assemblies.  Jesus commends those who follow after Him in the midst of the evil that engulfs many in the different churches.  As His children we can each one experience these different trials that though very difficult can be used by Jesus to draw us to Him.  I would like to pick-up where we left off, at the church of Thyatira to continue this exhortation.  May God bless us as we study His Word.

18 “And to the angel of the church in Thyatira write, ‘These things says the Son of God, who has eyes like a flame of fire, and His feet like fine brass:  19 “I know your works, love, service, faith, and your patience; and as for your works, the last are more than the first.  20 Nevertheless I have a few things against you, because you allow that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess, to teach and seduce My servants to commit sexual immorality and eat things sacrificed to idols.  21 “And I gave her time to repent of her sexual immorality, and she did not repent.  22 Indeed I will cast her into a sickbed, and those who commit adultery with her into great tribulation, unless they repent of their deeds.  23 I will kill her children with death, and all the churches shall know that I am He who searches the minds and hearts.  And I will give to each one of you according to your works.  24 Now to you I say, and to the rest in Thyatira, as many as do not have this doctrine, who have not known the depths of Satan, as they say, I will put on you no other burden.  25 But hold fast what you have till I come.  26 And he who overcomes, and keeps My works until the end, to him I will give power over the nations-27 ‘He shall rule them with a rod of iron; They shall be dashed to pieces like the potter’s vessels’-as I also have received from My Father; 28 and I will give him the morning star.  29 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.”’  Revelation 2:18-29

It is a trial and a burden to consistently stand up against error in this age of apostasy.  Jesus Christ knows and understands the difficulty that we experience as we reject the lie and hold fast the truth.  I have experienced the attack of false teaching on my mind by the enemy as I rejected and exposed the lie while holding fast to the truth.  There is a spiritual struggle that we engage in as we love our Lord Jesus Christ and hold fast to His Word the Bible.  Those who are deceived by Satan, think it is God’s work they are doing and it is for His glory when they pray for those who love His truth to embrace their lie.  Praise God that the Holy Spirit who is in us leads us and delivers us from the lies of the enemy.  God Almighty gives us the ability to overcome the lies of the enemy and live for His glory and the good of others.

1 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world.  2 By this you know the Spirit of God:  Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God, and every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God.  And this is the spirit of the Antichrist, which you have heard was coming, and is now already in the world.  4 You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. 5 They are of the world.  Therefore they speak as of the world, and the world hears them.  6 We are of God.  He who knows God hears us; he who is not of God does not hear us.  By this we know the spirit of truth and the spirit of error.  Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God.  1 John 4:1-7

It is a trial and heartache to see those that we love embrace the lie and reject our Savior and His glorious Word.  They pay Him lip service, but in action and belief they deny Him, accepting as the doctrine of God, the false teachings of men.  It is sad to see so many follow after the enemy, hold fast to the doctrines of demons and engage in devilish behavior that leads men into destruction and perdition.  It is sorrowful that so many within the church find solace and comfort in lies of men rather than receive strength and edification from faithful teaching and preaching of God’s precious Word.

30 “An astonishing and horrible thing Has been committed in the land:  31 The prophets prophesy falsely, And the priests rule by their own power; And My people love to have it so.  But what will you do in the end?”  Jeremiah 5:30-31

16 Thus says the Lord:  “Stand in the ways and see, And ask for the old paths, where the good way is, And walk in it; Then you will find rest for your souls.  But they said, ‘We will not walk in it.’” Jeremiah 6:16

Overcomers, those who truly love Jesus Christ and hold fast to His Word, the Bible, will rule and reign with Christ Jesus and be given the morning star.  Jesus Christ is called the Morning Star at the end of Revelation.  Bright and glorious, pointing us to God the Father and drawing us to Himself, He brightens our path and leads us in the good way, the way that brings glory to Him and is faithful to His truth.

16 “I, Jesus, have sent My angel to testify to you these things in the churches.  I am the Root and the Offspring of David, the Bright and Morning Star.”  17 And the Spirit and the bride say, “Come!”  And let him who hears say, “Come!”  And let him who thirsts come.  Whoever desires, let him take the water of life freely.  18 For I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book:  If anyone adds to these things, God will add to him the plagues that are written in this book; 19 and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part from the Book of Life, from the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.  20 He who testifies of these things says, “Surely I am coming quickly.”  Amen.  Even so, come, Lord Jesus!  21 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.  Revelation 22:16-21
