The Bible tells us that the Spirit of God dwelt in Jesus Christ in fullness, without limit, and Jesus Christ spoke the Word of God.
“For He whom God has sent speaks the words of God, for God does not give the Spirit by measure. John 3:34
Jesus Christ told Nicodemus that he needed to be born again to see the kingdom of God.
Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God'” Nicodemus said to Him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?” Jesus answered, “Most assuredly I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ “The wind blows where is wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit.” John 3:3-8
To be a member of Christ’s kingdom, we must be born of the Holy Spirit.
But when the kindness and the love of God our Savior toward man appeared, not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior, that having been justified by His grace we should become heirs according to the hope of eternal life. Titus 3:4-7
It stands to reason since Jesus Christ did His work serving God and was raised from the dead by the power of the Holy Spirit, even though He is God the Son of God, then those who believe in Him have eternal life as a result of the supernatural work of God in the life of the believer who has placed their faith in Jesus Christ and believed on Him to be their Lord and Savior by the power of the Holy Spirit. This is such a sure statement because this truth is taught throughout the New Testament.
But you are not in the flash but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His. And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you. Romans 8:9-11
Now He who establishes us with you in Christ and has anointed us is God, who also has sealed us and given us the Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee. 2 Corinthians 2:21-22
This only I want to learn from you: Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? Are you so foolish? Having begun in the Spirit, are you now being made perfect by the flesh? Galatians 3:2-3
As Jesus Christ said to Nicodemus what is born of the flesh is flesh, and what is born of the Spirit is spirit, without the regenerating work of the Holy Spirit in our lives we do not belong to God. The Spirit makes us alive and empowers us to live the life of faith while we wait for our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ to come again from Heaven and set up His kingdom upon this earth.
The Holy Spirit leads us, bears witness with our spirit that we are the children of God, intercedes for us, helps us in our weaknesses, enlightens us to understand Scripture, struggles against the flesh in our lives and produces His fruit in our living for Christ Jesus.
For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are the sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are the children of God, and if children, then heir-heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together. Romans 8:14-17
Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groaning which cannot be uttered. Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God. Romans 8:26
“However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. “He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you.” John 16:13-14
But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you know all things. But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will abide in Him. 1 John 2:20 & 27
I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. Galatians 5:16-18
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another. Galatians 5:22-26
The Holy Spirit also gifts us for service as revealed in Romans 12:4-8, 1 Corinthians 12, and 1 Peter 4:10-11.
We must be reminded that the Holy Spirit produces His work and fruit in our lives. We are not the ones who produce this supernatural life within us. By faith in Jesus Christ, Who He is and what He has done as revealed to us in the Holy Scriptures we are born again and are sealed by the Holy Spirit of promise. This is so important for at least two vital reasons. Firstly, so we don’t go off doing our own thing in our own power and bring shame to the gospel of Jesus Christ and to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, so we don’t get ensnared in legalistic living. Secondly, the false teachers and false brethren that oppose the Word of God and Jesus Christ our Lord are devoid of the Spirit.
These are grumblers, complainers, walking according to their own lusts; and they mouth great swelling words, flattering people to gain advantage. But you, beloved, remember the words which were spoken before by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ: how they told you that there would be mockers in the last time who would walk according to their own ungodly lusts. These are sensual persons, who cause divisions, not having the Spirit. Jude 16-19
Jude then continues in the following verses to instruct us as to how we can protect ourselves from these evil workers.
But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. And on some have compassion, making a distinction; but others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire, hating even the garment defiled by the flesh. Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling, and to present you faultless Before the present of His glory with exceeding joy, To God our Savior, Who alone is wise, Be glory and majesty, Dominion and power, both now and forever. Amen. Jude 20-25
Let us live, work and pray in the Spirit so we can bear fruit for the kingdom of God.
